The war was so ruthless and had to face some cruel facts. Kendra Shaw ordered the guns to open when the enemy plane was approaching. He was holding the starburks and might be hit by his own artillery fire, but in order to defend the warship, he had to order fire. The same Things have happened to Tai and Adama. It was the same in the first episode. However, under the persuasion of the president, Adama chose to escape instead of revenge like Cain. The war ended before it even started!
Regarding the shot XO, it is really a stupid idea to question Cain's decision, presumably Adama will do the same, but he has to face Lee, otherwise it might be Cain's too!
