"Escape from Pretoria" is based on real events. Daniel Radcliffe plays Tim Jenkin, one of two white South Africans. They were regarded as terrorists and imprisoned in 1978 for participating in the secret anti-apartheid operation of the African People's Congress. Tim also relied on his clever mind and strong will to incarnate as a "locksmith", and finally escaped from the Pretoria prison and continued his anti-racism road.

Although it is an anti-racist biographical film, the film mainly focuses on planning jailbreak activities. There is not much space to describe racial discrimination in the film, and occasionally use narration to describe the objective situation. Anti-discrimination is not the main focus of the film, but a spiritual sustenance for Tim to escape from prison and continue his life. Fortunately, the sense of urgency to escape from prison is full, and it is completely brought into it.

Freedom is a very simple concept, which may be why it can be lost so easily. This movie wants to express such a meaning. A narration from Tim's opening also gives a general idea of the historical conditions of South Africa in that era, but the film catches different points. This new work by Dan Niu is quite satisfactory.
