Where to start.
The first one I watched ten years ago is still in school. I just went to the cinema and found one casually, and I felt that Kung Fu movies that relied on foreigners to raise their eyebrows were silly and earthy. However, the plot of "Master Ye's counter-killing foreigners to vent their anger for the Chinese" was still ablaze several times. While watching the blood boil, I feel a little embarrassed in my heart.
Probably the shot is good and the technique is solid. Just like the beauty you don't like, you still have a reaction to tease.
4 also came out in a blink of an eye, because Yen Zidan, who was mocked by the whole people, was neither concerned nor interested. It just happened to be free so I watched it.
Tears filled his eyes.
Simply put, you can achieve all your expectations of Hong Kong-made kung fu movies, and then you can do better.
The story starts with Ye Wen going abroad to find a school for his son and asking for help. Unfolding: Wu Yue, the president of China, extremely hates foreigners, because foreigners have been bullying them all the time, and he has nothing but grievances; girls who like cheerleaders encounter campus bullying on school campuses; Americans discriminate against Chinese people and look down on Kung Fu.
Every element is not the simple "Chinese people are not the sick man of East Asia" ten years ago, especially when I am getting older, the perception is even more different. Learned more about history, including many American dramas and movies, and reflected that racial discrimination was a particularly common problem in the United States, especially at that time. And, I recently chatted with two friends, one is also a friend who has known each other for a long time, and the other is a friend who has just met recently, and even encountered campus bullying. Until the teenager, I didn't think this topic was so close to me.
Therefore, although it is not a film that discusses these two issues separately, but these two elements appear in the film, not with the attitude of "we Chinese are being bullied everywhere", but with the attitude of "this is everywhere." Existing problems" are the principle. This is not my personal feeling off the court. Blacks in the army until the point in the film are discriminated against; female students are at school, although they are targeted by individuals, but the teacher still chooses her as the cheerleader, and there are still other foreign students to accompany her. She cheered; Wu Jianhao wanted to introduce Chinese Kung Fu in the army, and the superiors kindly said that he would understand more deeply; just to explain that he was indeed telling stories in this larger context. Therefore, they all seem to be "fighting foreigners", and their starting point and end point are different. Then, you don't have to bring in the identity of "I am Chinese", you can understand the characters as well, or even better.
Therefore, in fact, the film is about Yip Man’s American school inspection trip under the background of a minority ethnic group wanting to integrate into the mainstream of a foreign country and facing various problems and contradictions.
In it, kung fu is no longer an end, but a means. Take kung fu as the starting point to tell the different mentalities of such a group of strangers.
Here, the introduction of Bruce Lee is no longer a gimmick, but rather unfolds the story with just the right measure. From Wu Yue's opposition to Bruce Lee's teaching of boxing, the attitudes of several lines and figures have unfolded one by one. Obviously, Wu Yue was bullied a lot by the Americans. He endured the humiliation and established a Chinese guild. He is a conservative and an early builder. Although he appears stubborn and worthy of respect, after all, each generation has the mission of another generation. Bruce Lee and Wu Jianhao are the inheritors and promoters. Bruce Lee accepts apprentices and teaches martial arts, (there is no mention of making a movie in the film, it is considered that he has not done this step yet), which is regarded as a kind of fire based on kung fu. Wu Jianhao doesn't have many scenes, but this character is the most sensitive and complicated in the film. He actively learns Chinese Kungfu and wants to introduce the US Marine Corps, but also because of his self-confidence—that's what Ye Wen said to his son in the end of the film. Just like a black man in the army, you can imagine Wu Jianhao’s loneliness in the American army as a yellow race. Therefore, he actively learns and introduces Chinese Kung Fu into the US Marine Corps. He does not simply want to promote Chinese culture and spread Chinese Kung Fu, but he wants to. The urgent need to be respected and recognized. If Bruce Lee is a firm preacher who has already learned something, Wu Jianhao is a victim who is in the dark and grabbing a straw. The master was defeated in front of the Americans. When he looked at Wu Yue who fell on the ground, his sadness was even more desperate and personal. It was the suspicion that "Maybe Chinese Kung Fu is really rubbish in the end?" The final self-esteem and self-confidence are fragile and precarious. So some people say that Wu Jianhao's role is eccentric, but I think it is the best role. There is such a delicate character in a Kung Fu movie, but everything is not rendered overly.
Let's talk about the action scenes. In fact, in retrospect, there are not many fancy dazzling skills, but they are all very good action scenes, and they can even be narrated in the action scenes.
In Wu Yue and Ye Wen's rally, Wu Yue realized that Ye Wen had injured his left hand. After asking a question, he put one hand behind him, and Ye Wen also knew that there was no mother-in-law. The level of tolerance of the two is fully demonstrated. And the subsequent earthquake hiding under the table, the instant grandmaster to the mortal flip, is also the interesting part of this film.
Later, the Americans discovered that Ye Wen had an injury on his left hand, specifically attacking weaknesses. It was also a careful comparison-everything was done through shots and actions. Then, it was also a short comment reminder, realizing the interestingness of this scene, "In the final matchup, Ye Wen suffered severe damage to his left arm and ribs. After breaking through the siege, I used the index finger to prick my throat. Oh my god, it is impossible for another master kung fu movie to shoot like this."
Combined with the mentality of Wu Jianhao just mentioned, his cheers at the last moment were really relieved to vent, but is he really that proud?
At this moment, Ye Wen, who was standing on the stage, was so desolate. "Kung fu is a killing technique, and kung fu is studying the most effective way to destroy the human weakness of others." At that moment, Ye Wen and Wu Yue's calmness of fighting skills across the tea table, the grand master's attitude of each hand in the competition, completely disappeared. Showing the darkest fangs of Kung Fu. At that moment, the scarred Ye Wen was thinking about what, I don't know, it can be a lot. At this moment, do anyone still think that it is "yy nationalism against foreigners" that has remained unchanged for thousands of years.
Some people say that Bruce Lee should appear in the last scene. Ye Wenshang is just because this is his movie, which is also unreasonable. This is the end of Ye Man. The Bruce Lee worship at the end of the film is the real successor to the next generation. In the film, Ye Man, who won twice, was not happy once. In addition to the above, what moved me even more was the first time, at the Mid-Autumn Festival.
At the age of 70 (reversed from his death at the end of the film), his wife died, cancer, and his son was rebellious. He was desperate in the United States. After seeing the troubled Chinese people, Ye Wen was forced to act again at the last minute.
In this scene, it took just three short fights to accomplish what "Ip Man Yi" tried to achieve. An arrogant and powerful foreigner, a kind-hearted Chinese was repeatedly bullied, especially the female master who really fought. It has to be well acted. At the critical moment, Ye Wen had to make a move to defeat the foreigners and save the face of the Chinese, as if he was very relieved. The crowds in Chinatown all around cheered enthusiastically. This scene was seen by Ye Wen ten years ago and then repeated again and again. This time, after the fight, Ye Wen was full of fatigue and stared blankly at the celebrating crowd around him. However, just like his trademark serial smashing punches, he has been fighting hard all his life, but nothing has gotten better.
