"Death row escape" hope is the most powerful motivation

Francis was imprisoned in a Nazi prison. Like other inmates, Francis might go out and never come back. Francis made a prison escape plan, and he recorded all his preparations and plans.

In a small confined space, Francis first unfastened his handcuffs. He contacted inmates walking outside, got a gadget and unlocked the handcuffs. Using the jailer inadvertently, he left a steel spoon and knocked open the wooden board of the door little by little, and then "recovered" every time it was fixed.

Francis combined the steel wire on the bed with the quilt and sheets to make a strong rope. Then I was looking for my own partners, looking around, and the inmates gave up one by one. Until one evening, a new cellmate appeared in his room, a small child.

Prior to this, Francis carefully observed the prison's shift time and specific location, and worked out an escape schedule and plan. Before being taken to the execution ground, Francis successfully realized his escape plan with his new inmates. Francis is free.

Partially documentary prison escape films are a lot more boring than "The Hole", especially the foreshadowing part in front, which is lengthy and boring. Fortunately, a sense of tension is created at the end, otherwise I will almost fall asleep...

【A-】I kept thinking about the relationship between "minimalism" and "realistic images" in Bresson's works, until this scene happened: the prison guards brought the protagonist into the hotel and sentenced them to death, but they did not shoot their steps. In the process of entering the hotel, the camera is only aimed at the hotel signboard, informing the audience of the location, and replacing the character's movement with the reflection change of the glass door as a transitional shot. So starting from this set of shots, I repeatedly tasted the audio-visual logic of the whole film, and then I went back and thought about the preface written by Bresson, "restore with the greatest degree of authenticity" and "without any whitewash", and found that this was just another set of delicate lies. The restrictions on space and scenery keep the audience's desire to imagine the world outside the painting, and the faithful recording of movements and gestures is the construction of aesthetic will, while the interpretation of a large number of narrations seems to be a narrative betrayal of the former two. . So in this three-way split, it came to the end of the film, and the smoke slowly coming from the roadside brought the film back to the "expressionist" appearance.
