【Fahrenheit 451】Film Criticism

I watched this movie because Murakami said that his creation of "The End of the World and Cold Wonderland"-The End of the World, was inspired by Truffau's "Fahrenheit 451". Unfortunately, I couldn't find the original work, so I took the 2019 version and watched it. It can be said that since the formation of the globalization of the film industry, in order to smooth out the appreciation habits of audiences in different countries, a large number of movies relying on various visual special effects have been produced. The story, the most important movie element, has been shrinking, and this is precisely the key to the moving movie. And this one is bad because it didn't tell the story well. I haven't read the original work. In fact, I can imagine that it would be very difficult to successfully adapt such a dystopian classic original novel. So this film is bad, and the adaptation of the script has a high degree of difficulty, which is a reason to forgive it. Moreover, you can't say that the creators are scribbling, on the contrary, the many special effects shots in the movie are quite gorgeous, and the performances of the male and female actors are not hard. It can be felt that the protagonist is trying hard to live in the hold, not to let the plot rotten to the point of being out of control. Unfortunately, their efforts failed. For more than an hour, most of the movies showed the external conflicts of the characters, the deliberate play of the male and female protagonists, and the behavioral portrayals of other characters. However, the burning of books and confucianism had an impact on them, so I didn’t analyze it. . In other words, the angle at which the entire movie was shot has a deviation. This makes the whole story seem tedious, full of loads, and the audience can’t empathize with it. It’s just a pity at most. Why burn the classic books that have been precipitated by thousands of years of history and civilization. It can be said that good photography, good actors, good costumes, and hard performance cannot conceal the weakness of the film’s storytelling. This shortcoming is enough to make all external efforts become useless. In the final analysis, in my opinion, as long as you firmly grasp the theme of "burning books and pitting scholars", it won't be much worse. Unfortunately, the director's skill is still not enough. I did not read the version of Truffaut, but in terms of rating, Truffaut's storytelling skills should be a little better. Recall the movies with similar styles that I have seen. To sum up, if you want to make a good movie, you must have a core value. As a storyteller, the director can only grasp it, understand it thoroughly, and successfully tell it. I believe the audience will feel it. This movie consumes a lot of manpower and material resources, but it still fails to tell a good story, which is really disappointing.

Fahrenheit 451 quotes

  • Clarisse McClellan: Why do I always make you nervous?

    Guy Montag: You don't.

Clarisse McClellan: When I see you burning up Eel's lives, you don't look nervous.

Guy Montag: That's because I'm very good at my job.

Clarisse McClellan: Hmm. Have you ever thought, even for one second, why you do what you do? You should try reading before burning.

  • Captain Beatty: Do you want to know what's inside all these books? Insanity. The Eels want to measure their place in the universe, so they turn to these novels about non-existent people. Or worse, philosophers. Look, here's Spinoza. One expert screaming down another expert's throat. "We have free will. No, all of our actions are predetermined." Each one says the opposite, and a man comes away lost, feeling more bestial and lonely than before. Now, if you don't want a person unhappy, you don't give them two sides of a question to worry about.

Guy Montag: Just give 'em one.

    Captain Beatty: Better yet, none.
