Perhaps because Nolan no longer deliberately shows off his skills, and the tone of "Dunkirk" is really simple, I really like it. It may also be because there is no expectation for this film.
Nolan used a node to present the 8 days of Dunkirk's retreat, the rescue of 330,000 people, and the sacrifice of nearly 70,000 people. He didn't show all the 400,000 people. There was only one section of the beach, only a corner of the city, and only a few planes. Many people died, and more people survived. Basically, what the audience sees is what a soldier can see at that time. However, the audience felt all the despair, hardship, cruelty and heroism in this retreat. In Dunkirk from May 26 to June 4, 1940, an Allied soldier was a fish that was slaughtered. Of course enemy bullets and shells would kill you. Your life or death depends on your standing/squatting. / Where are you lying; the big ship will kill you, if you don’t swim out or jump on the wrong side before it sinks; the blue sea will kill you, if your plane crash-landes and the hatch will not open; despair will kill you If you fail to escape again and again, you will completely lose your will to live; even your teammates will kill you, and they will lift you onto the boat in order to get on the boat, and then the boat will blow up. The meaning of Dunkirk is to survive. Nothing is more important than living well. With the green hills here, trees will grow after stupid humans cross the border.
But those who died, and all those who struggled and worked hard, we must remember them. This contains only some of the merits of our stupid human beings. Compassion.
And war is not worthy of exaltation and beautification.
The above is what I thought of after watching "Dunkirk". As an audience, I can't demand more of a movie.
In order to convey these ideas, Nolan used the pictures, editing, sound effects, and actors to be appropriate. If you don't have a preset in your heart, you can only use your senses to perceive this movie wholeheartedly, you should like it.
If you think that Nolan is a great god, this is a big movie, it will burn your brain, Dunkirk is a big event, and Harry Styles is a little fresh meat... It's hard to say.
Unfortunately, if you have not watched the movie but read here, you already have a preset. Inception is really very powerful. So I still admire Nolan.
