#电光幻影# "Private War", a choice a person can make for a lifetime, I am afraid that there will be no regrets forever.

A performance film at the 2019 Beijing International Film Festival, a biographical film by a war reporter. Pei Chunhua plays Mary Colvin, a female war correspondent. The film is based on an article about Colvin's life and deeds written by Vanity Fair. Colvin had traveled to the front lines of war in Kosovo, Chechnya, East Timor, the Middle East, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe. He was severely injured and lost an eye during the civil war in Sri Lanka. He also reported on the "Arab Spring" anti-government movement and the outbreak of the war in Syria in 2012. When Hums was hit by a rocket and died.

This theme and content, as well as the female lead role, are actually quite attractive to me, so the film festival released a series of films and immediately put it on the wish list. But the actual look and feel of the movie is not ideal. It can be said to bring me deep regret and feel that I have spent a lot of time on a fragmented film.

If I want to talk about the advantages of this film, I think of the phrase "emotional but not erotic." The female protagonist has exposed scenes, but there is nothing uncomfortable, and there is no emotional desire. It is actually very plain and narrative. Knowing whether the film is too righteous or the heroine lacks charm, anyway, there is a feeling of drying up, and the whole film can't make people excited. It is said that a thrilling life should be accompanied by sensational or exciting moments, but it is a pity that at the end of the film with such a good subject, I feel indifferent to the end of the film. I even feel that the heroine’s various works and deaths are probably real regrets. The moment she died.

In my heart, I like this character and his life extremely, but I think that the film has too much pen and ink on the fragmentary branches. Maybe the director feels that the branches can set up the character's delicacy and enthusiasm, but I think the main line is cut, too scattered, and narrative. Too plain, but plain is straightforward, even without bullying, the characters are paler, I can't feel the surging, nor touched, and I can't even be touched. My whole person is very depressed.

Finally, in life, faith is an amazing thing. It is not necessary to believe in specific things, but to pursue a direction, a path chosen, a determined lifestyle, and an attitude towards life.

Some people are always looking inexplicably on the road, while some people are already at the end, tears in their eyes.

Interviewer: Last question. Fifty years from now, some youngster's gonna pull this disc out of a box and maybe make a judgment about becoming a journalist. What would you want that youngster to know about Marie Colvin and about being a war correspondent?

Marie Colvin: Very difficult question. It's like writing, uh, your own obituary. I suppose to look back at it and say, you know, I cared enough to go to these places and write, in some way, something that would make, uh, someone else care as much about it as I did at the time. Part of it is you're never gonna get to where you're going if you acknowledge fear. I think fear comes later,

Marie Colvin: when it's all over.

  • Marie Colvin: [about Norm] He was always first in and last out. He was invincible.

Paul Conroy: There are old journalists and there are bold journalists. There are no old and bold journalists. You said that.
