Talk about the football elements in "Les Miserables" (see the spoiler carefully)
The film opened with a depiction of the reaction of the French people in the World Cup final in Russia last year. In the beginning, the black kids were still talking about Osman Dembele and Mbappé not playing.
Anyone who knows this world champion knows that the three lines headed by Mbappé, Pogba (Kant), and Umtiti (Varane) are all blacks, not counting Dembele and Lemar , Matuidi and other major players. More than half of the 6 blacks in the starting 11-man lineup of the French team finals are no exaggeration to say that it is the Hercules Cup that the black minorities won for France. It’s not difficult to understand the director’s intention to set this title. It not only creates the atmosphere and the cool title of the "Les Miserable World" through the grand scene where everyone walks on the Champs Elysées to celebrate the victory, but also implies that the war is from one place to another. It has already started, that is, whose France is this after all.
There is also a small detail that must be mentioned here (also a detail that makes me laugh out loud). The Peppa Pig team just started to have a small chat in the market: Peppa Pig said it was him for the Golden Globe Awards, the black brother of the team said it was Mbappé, Peppa Pig denied that he thought it was Modric. A very casual conversation, but a lot of information.
First, explain that the Golden Globes is the highest award for football individuals, and it has been monopolized by Messi and Ronaldo in the past ten years. Let’s look at two more candidates: Mbappé is a Frenchman, one of the biggest players in World Cup wins and the hottest star in today’s football, as well as the black minority; Modric is the core player of the French team’s final opponent Croatia, and the World Cup has the most The Golden Globe Award (but this award has been seen as a consolation prize for the runner-up in recent years), as well as white people. Then look back at that conversation. As a French, Peppa Pig would rather award the Golden Globe to his opponent than to black players in his own country. The irreconcilable racial contradiction was conveyed in two sentences. In fact, what the movie finally confesses to us is exactly the irreconcilable ending. (Interestingly, the final winner of the Golden Globe Award that year was Modric, with Mbappe in fourth, and his country’s teammate Griezmann in third.)
The last thing I want to say is that this may be a microcosm of why I don’t like Les Misérables. It is so neat, even football elements are used without a little bit of waste. Each scene is like a carefully calculated part, and in the end it ends in a way that seems to be sublimated. And I have no feeling or even a little bit of resistance to this kind of expression like the composition of the college entrance examination, this is still under the premise of not discussing the arc of the characters (in fact, the final battle because the characters collapsed is also a deduction for me).
