With van gogh

The only movie that burst into tears after watching the trailer.

Because of the high expectations, the actual feeling is not so good. One is that the inner world of a genius does not resonate so easily; the other is that the director's exquisiteness and over-interpretation make me feel that there is no white space and no aftertaste.

Dafoe's acting skills are no trace, and it makes me cry like "I can't do anything else, I tried", a kind of fragility of ordinary people. The first half is very beautiful, the angle of view of the lens seems to have been standing by Van Gogh's side, the golden sunshine, the fields, the beauty of loneliness and tranquility of a person-these ordinary people can appreciate it. When the outing children came around curiously, I was "so cute", but Van Gogh suddenly went crazy. I was awakened by a slap in the face, and I realized that I belonged to the group of ordinary people who couldn't understand genius. Perhaps the director has done so well that I, an ordinary audience, really feel that I am with Van Gogh. This too close distance has caused discomfort-a "lunatic", unpleasant, and even dangerous weird. I heard about these histories from the perspective of future generations, and my heart is full of pity for geniuses. I faced it with a real sword, and I also found it difficult to get along with it.

There were not many lines, but in retrospect there were many confessions and self-statements, as if the director was afraid that he hadn't explained clearly how Van Gogh was and what thoughts and feelings he had. This is what I don't like, and there is no room for the audience to understand and imagine. In the end, I would like to complain a little bit about the age difference between Dafoe's age and the role, and the special effects makeup of the broken ears is also a bit unconcerned. There are one or two piercing shots. The overall flaws are not concealed. It is a movie that is highly enjoyable in terms of pictures, music and acting, and has a very special style. Recommend a look.

About Van Gogh's life, the public is probably familiar with it, and the story is still full of pain and depression as we all know. Dafoe's performance is okay. There are good times and bad in terms of photography, some scenes restore the real scenes of Van Gogh's paintings, and some close-ups of the heads of the characters are incomplete.

Regardless of the unique animation attributes of "Love Van Gogh", "Gate of Eternity" is more marginal and individual in comparison. The former tells what kind of person "Van Gogh" is from the third-person perspective of wandering among different characters, while the latter uses a large number of half-virtual and half-real lenses to symbolize the state of Van Gogh's spiritual world - half reality and half hallucination. The exchange of viewpoints is also implied in the use of the lens. A large number of subjective shots + third-person viewpoints are switched back and forth. We are free between Van Gogh and the surrounding, suspended in the artist's inner world, and the image helps me to be there. . The setting at the end: Van Gogh's body was placed in the middle of his paintings, surrounded by businessmen who came to pay their respects and bought paintings. It was ironic that no one in front of him cared about it and no one understood it, and the famous people behind him stayed in the world.

At Eternity's Gate quotes

  • Vincent Van Gogh: There's something inside me. I don't know what it is. What I see, nobody else sees and sometimes it frightens me. I think I'm losing my mind.

  • Madman: I'm an army man. I was a soldier.

Vincent Van Gogh: Are all soldiers crazy?

Madman: Oh, no, soldiers are not crazy, but officers are. All the officers are insane.
