Change yourself, or lose me

In recent LGBTQ movies (including CMBYN and LS) adapted from the original works, it turned out that the viewing process of this movie gave me the feeling of reading a book. The key is to present the messy story in the book on the big screen. Before the scene, the connection is so natural, it is really difficult!

The names of many characters in the movie are different from those in the book. It is probably because they are afraid of giving the original party some expectations and affecting the viewing process. Due to the limitation of time, the characters in LIA are not portrayed in depth, and the relationship between Sarah and Jared is just a touch. If you can tell more about it, it might be more perfect. Even so, this film has already made me like this. The original party is very satisfied.

In the film, a key scene in the book may have been revised for theatrical conflict, which made the "accident" more serious and shocked me even more during the filming process.

The story of the whole film is not complicated, and all flashbacks are used, which restores the structure of the book, and the main line is very clearly visible in a few days.

I also like Lucas’ interpretation of the male protagonist, but the sense of rebellion is a little bit insufficient. It may be due to the insufficient preparation. This is also due to the removal of some of the preparations made by the last outbreak in the book in the movie, including the period. Once, the male protagonist kept the phone number of the gun appointment that he found on the graffiti on the protection board of the restaurant toilet in his mobile phone, only for the purpose of resisting and not making the appointment. Maybe adding it will be more perfect! Nicole's mother is really nothing to say, every act has a foreshadowing, even if one eye looks down and one inadvertently turns around or sheds tears, there are both original and follow-up stories, which is really admirable. The father played by Russell is not described as much as in the book. Among the many scenes with the male lead, only the last one is the most exciting. It is so exciting that many people in the whole hall choked and even cried. The uncle on my right was crying, while the one on my left The lady also choked up, and my eyes were sore from tears. I always think that a good movie is good if it resonates with the audience. Of course, resonance does not require the audience to have experienced the deeds of the protagonist. It only needs to build a bridge or a hint to make the audience think of some of their own experiences and thus contribute to the movie. The story is empathetic, that's enough. Of course, you don’t need to have experienced sexual orientation correction to get feelings or inspirations through this film, but because the film focuses on the male protagonist’s personal experience and the relationship between the male protagonist and his family, so that the audience can feel more deeply. In terms of the weight and evolution of family affection, because it is family affection, it is easier to have a sense of substitution. I think this is also the reason why many people are moved!

In short, the movie is great, it's worth watching, and it's in my plan to do more.

  • Nancy Eamons: [to her son Jared] I love God. God loves me. I love my son. That's it. I think for your father it's a little bit more complicated.

  • Jared Eamons: [to his father] I'm gay, and I'm your son. And neither of those things are going to change. Okay? So let's deal with that!
