I watched a movie in Hong Kong in December, and I was overwhelmed by the various Star Wars eggs and surprise guest appearances. For this reason, I compiled an article about the eggs, and there are not many spoilers (right). Welcome everyone to watch before or watch the movie as appropriate. Read after filming.
Jyn's toys
After all, she is the daughter of an imperial official. Jyn's childhood toys were all around Star Wars. These include the Storm Soldier she called "Stormie" (a dead soldier picked it up at the opening), "Koodie the Tooka" (lotta cat doll), "Mr. Iggy" (IG-88), snow monster doll, There are also various homemade robots and spaceships.
Blue milk
At the beginning of the film, we can see a container of blue milk in Galen Erso's home. This peculiar drink is Blue milk, also known as Bantha Milk or Tatooine milk, as the name implies, the Bantha beast produced by Tatooine.
Tribute to Obi-Wan
When Jyn appeared on a planet called Wobani, if you reverse the order of the words, it would be Obi-wan.
"May the force of others be with you"
Before meeting Jyn, Chirrut (played by Donnie Yen) said "May the Force of others be with you" to passers-by. Although it sounds like a variation of the classic Star Wars line "May the Force be with you", in fact "The Force of Others" is one of the early concepts written by George Lucas in the original script.
Guardians of the Whills
In the film, we learn that Chirrut Îmwe (Yen Zidan) and Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) were once members of the Guardians of the Whills. Their duty was to defend the Kyber Temple in the Jedi holy city of Jedha. In the original script of the Star Wars written by George Lucas (Father of Star Wars) in 1973, the title used is "Journal of the Whills".
Where is the magic monster
Pay close attention to Saw Gerrera's cave. Some monster graffiti on the walls comes from the early films of director Gareth Edwards, including Godzilla and MUTO in the US version of "Godzilla" in 2014, as well as the director's debut "Monsters" Some creatures in ". These easter eggs were not deliberately done by the director, but a "prank" by the staff. The director only noticed it midway through the filming.
Saw Gerrera
Rebel extremist Saw Gerrera first appeared in the second episode of the fifth season of the animated "Clone Wars" "A War On Two Front", and appeared in four episodes in total. The story tells that as the leader of the rebel army, Saw Gerrera intends to overthrow the separatists' control of the planet Onderon. The riot was unsuccessful at the beginning, and it was not until the arrival of Anakin and Obi-Wan to reverse the situation.
George Lucas had planned to produce a live-action Star Wars TV series in 2005 with Saw Gerrera as the main character, but the plan ended in failure.
Board game Dejarik
In Saw Gerrera's cave, several people can be seen playing the original board game Dejarik. In "New Hope", the holographic version of Dejarik was in the Millennium Falcon, and C-3PO was almost broken by Chewbacca because of this.
Twi' Lek
In Saw Gerrera's cave, a holographic image of a slave dancer also appeared. I believe anyone who has watched "Return of the Jedi" will never forget the image of the Tirek.
"It's a trap!"
In "Return of the Jedi", Admiral Ackbar heard the line "It's a trap!" spoken by an enemy army, which was regarded as a classic by countless Star Wars fans (more of a spoof). In "Rogue One", Saw Gerrera reinterpreted this line in a vigorous manner due to the arrival of the imperial military pilot. By the way, Erik Bauersfeld, the voice of Admiral Ackbar, passed away in 2016.
Coruscant
In Jyn's memory clip, her parents and Krennic are talking and laughing, and the scenery outside the window shows that their location is the galactic capital Coruscant.
Governor Tarkin
Tarkin is re-interpreted by actor Guy Henry through CG special effects, recreating the appearance of the late actor Peter Cushing on the big screen.
Darth Vader
Darth Vader is one of the surprises of the film. James Earl Jones, who dubbed the old trilogy, continued to vocalize, but David Prowse did not return as a role stand-in.
Vader's Sanctuary
In the film, we learn that Darth Vader lives in a fortress on volcanic lava. This setting was actually proposed as early as when George Lucas filmed "The Empire Strikes Back", and the art director Ralph McQuarrie created it even more. Concept map, but eventually Lucas gave up using it in the pass. In addition, this planet is called Mustafar. The lightsaber battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan in "Vengeance of the Sith" took place here, so this is also the birthplace of the Black Warrior.
General Syndulla
In the scene of Yavin No. 4 base, you can hear the call to General Syndulla in the broadcast. Hera Syndulla is a character in "The Rise of the Rebels". It can be guessed that she was promoted to the general of the Resistance in the year and a half between "Rise of the Rebels" and "Rogue One".
Captain Antilles
In the film, after Bail Organa talks with Mon Mothma, he turns to Captain Antilles and says "ready" to him. At the end of the film, we Antilles appear again and entrust the Blueprint of the Death Star to Princess Leia.
Yavin No. 4 Captain Antilles also had another great feat, that is, he became the first person to be killed on the silver screen by a black warrior. In "New Hope", Antilles was strangled to death by the Black Warrior because he refused to reveal the whereabouts of the Death Star blueprint. In "Revenge of the Sith", Antilles took in C-3PO and R2-D2, which is why this pair of robots appeared on Yavin 4 in "Rogue One".
R2-D2 and C-3PO
R2-D2 and C-3PO have appeared in every Star Wars series movie, and this film is no exception. This pair of live treasures made a brief appearance at Yavin No. 4 base. Anthony Daniels has returned to voice C-3PO.
Robot mobilization
At Yavin No. 4 base, we can also see the cute robot Chopper strolling in the background. In addition, RA-7, "Mouse Robot" MSE-6, and Empire Detecting Robot also appear in the film.
"I have a bad feeling"
K-2SO almost uttered the most famous line of the Star Wars series "I had a bad feeling about this" after entering the Imperial Army base, but was interrupted by Jyn and Cassian in the middle.
T-15
In the Imperial Army base, two Stormtroopers discussed that the T-15 Leaping Space fighter was about to be scrapped during patrols, which echoed the dialogue between the two Stormtroopers discussing VT-16 in "New Hope".
Empire Document
When Jyn and Cassian searched for the Blueprint of the Death Star in the Imperial Database, they turned up a series of documents, which is a big wave of easter eggs.
One of the files is called Black Saber. The black lightsaber is an ancient lightsaber that looks more like a knife. It was made by the Jedi Order and was later stolen by Clan Vizsla of the Mandalorian tribe and passed on from generation to generation.
And Ord Mantell, Han Solo mentioned in "The Empire Strikes Back" that he once met a bounty hunter on the planet Ord Mantell.
Hammerhead corvette
First appeared in "A Princess on Lothal", episode 10 of the second season of the anime "Rise of the Rebels". This battleship was actually stolen from her home by Princess Leia with the help of the rebels.
The Ghost
Although the characters in "Rise of the Rebels" did not become the main characters in the film, their spaceship The Ghost appeared in the final battle of the film, indicating that this rebel squad was also involved in this battle.
Captain X-wing
The red team leader (Drewe Henley) and the gold team leader (played by Angus MacInnes) both appeared in the final aerial battle, but the two actors did not actually appear in the film because their clips are from the original material of "New Hope" and digitally Processing. Drewe Henley passed away in 2016, while Angus MaxInnes is still alive.
Red Squadron No. 5
The pilot Cader Pedrin Gaul was the 5th member of the Red Squadron in the film, but unfortunately died in the final battle, so we saw Luke inherit this code name in "New Hope".
Princess Leia
Princess Leia's guest appearance is definitely the biggest surprise of the film. The role is performed by Norwegian actress Ingvild Deila as a stand-in. The face is reshaped through CG technology, recreating the young Carrie Fisher in "New Hope"! Unfortunately, Fisher died of a heart attack not long ago. "Star Wars 8" will be her last screen performance.
Cameo
The dwarf actor Warwick Davis plays Saw Gerrera's subordinate Weeteef Cyu-Bee. Warwick is regarded as the "old face" of the Star Wars series. In "Return of the Jedi", he played the most popular Ewok when he was only 11 years old.
"Star Wars 8" director Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman guest stars as the launcher of the Death Star in the film. Rian also politely asked Gareth Edwards to make a cameo in the sequel of the original story.
Director Gareth Edwards made a cameo at the end of the film, starring as a soldier shouting "Launch", and then the spaceship carrying Princess Leia escaped from the main ship and escaped from the pursuit of the black warrior.
The Han Solo biography directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller almost appeared in the film, but had to leave before shooting because they had to rush to other locations.
However, Chris Miller has long been a guest star in Star Wars movies. Miller, who was still an Industrial Light & Magic intern, was fortunate to play a stormtrooper in the special edition of "The Empire Strikes Back".
Old role
Genevieve O'Reilly, who played Mon Mothma, leader of the Resistance in "Revenge of the Sith," played the role again. Mon Mothma first appeared in "Return of the Jedi" and was played by Caroline Blakiston at the time.
Another returning character is Bail Organa, played by Jimmy Smits, Princess Leia's adoptive father. Adrian Dunbar played this role for the first time in "The Phantom Crisis", but it was eventually deleted. In the prequels II and III, this role was played by Jimmy Smits.
In addition, the "Jedi friend" mentioned in Bail Organa's conversation with Mon Mothma is Obi-Wan, and the "she" he trusts is his adopted daughter, Princess Leia.
When Jyn first arrived in Jedha, he met two gangsters who came in badly. They were Ponda Baba and Cornelius Evazan who threatened Skywalker Luke's bar in "New Hope". I don’t know how the two left the planet before the big bang...
Although Wedge Antilles, a famous pilot of the Red Squadron, is not featured in the film, we can still hear his voice in the final battle. David Ankrum voiced Antilles in "New Hope" because the actor Dennis Lawson could not speak his lines in an American accent.
Finally, the title "Rogue One" is also an Easter egg. After the end of the Yavin campaign in "New Hope", the Red Squadron was reorganized under the leadership of Commander Narra, named Rogue Squadron (Rogue Squadron), with members including Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles and other top pilots.
