He writes a song in his life

The topic is so rustic.
I have always wanted to watch this movie related to education, but it is too old. From knowing this movie to seeing it, many years have passed. Although it is an old film, it still has a lot of resonance. From the beginning of teaching, Mr. Holland was just to leave a way behind. The old principal said very well that education has two functions, one is to impart knowledge, and the other is to guide the direction. When the old principal retired, the compass she gave to Mr. Holland may be an affirmation of Mr. Holland's work.
A lot of vivid examples of teacher-student relationship and the final concert will not be discussed, because in my opinion, there are many idealistic assumptions and beautifying elements. The interspersed with American historical events, the death of John Lennon, and the tense to alleviated relationship between Holland and his son who was born deaf, make it surpass the general music and education-themed movies.
Finally, I want to say that the theme of the film is very moving. As a music teacher, there is no greater success than this. No matter what profession you are in, teacher, soldier, singer or governor, the education you have received and the mentor you have been taught are your guiding lights. Even if you have never met a teacher like Mr. Holland, everything you have experienced is your best teacher. The more general meaning is that it inspires us to think about how we should spend our ordinary but wonderful life as a person.

I feel so-so, the ending is too satisfying and disappointing

The script is really well written. Several of the scenes are not only exquisite, but also rich in levels. After watching the 143-minute movie, I am still willing to go back and relive several scenes. And characters like the male protagonist are not only the teachers we wanted to meet but didn’t meet when we were young, but also the people we wanted to be but didn’t become now...

Mr. Holland's Opus quotes

  • Stadler: Who's that in the box?

    [a brief pause]

Glenn Holland: Just some kid I taught to beat a drum.

  • Principal Jacobs: Mr. Holland, it has come to my attention that you are teaching the students rock and roll.

Glenn Holland: Is this a problem?

Vice Principal Gene Wolters: Is this a problem? Yes, I think so. Our only job is to teach. We cannot teach and the students cannot learn if there is no discipline.

Glenn Holland: Uh... I'm sorry, uh, what exactly is your point, Gene?

Vice Principal Gene Wolters: My point is rock and roll, by its very nature, leads to a breakdown in discipline.

Glenn Holland: Well, what would you like me to do? Deny that rock and roll exists?

Vice Principal Gene Wolters: What I am... What we are saying is that you should be pushing the classics. Brahms, Mozart, Stravinsky.

Glenn Holland: Stravinsky was the music of the Russian Revolution, if you want to talk about a breakdown in discipline.

Vice Principal Gene Wolters: You are deliberately exaggerating.

Glenn Holland: How about the Kingston Trio, Gene? How about Sing Along with Mitch?

Vice Principal Gene Wolters: Oh, please!

Principal Jacobs: Just a minute, gentlemen. Mr. Holland, I do not want to interfere in the curriculum of any teacher. But next week, I have a meeting with the school board. And there are people in this community who believe that rock and roll is a message sent from the devil himself. Now when that issue comes up, what can I tell them?

Glenn Holland: Mrs. Jacobs, you tell them that I am teaching music, and that I will use anything from Beethoven to Billie Holiday to rock and roll, if I think it'll help me teach a student to love music.
