Dig a little bit, this is a film about seeking soul salvation after a serious sin. It was revealed in the movie that he tried to seek relief by pretending to be gods and ghosts, through religious activities, paralyzing nerves through drug use, socializing through dancing, educating young people through television, and demonizing communists and Chinese to seek liberation. After all, agreeing to make a movie to give young people an explanation may be one of them. It's a pity that there can only be temporary happiness, and all these efforts come to the end. When the night comes, he has nightmares again and again. In the end, he couldn't hide his torture in front of the camera. Fortunately, there was the scene where he couldn't help himself at the end of the movie. Even so, he can only feel that he deserved it. It will not be heaven waiting for him.
If the structure of this movie is messy, it doesn't seem to affect the viewing, let alone a person suffering from such a terminal illness, and there is no way to go to the doctor.
After watching this movie, I vaguely feel that it has a deeper meaning. Are they talking about the self-reflection of these gangs, or are they just the product of a larger political background? The film mentioned the violence and Cold War ideology of American films many times, which had a bad influence on Indonesian youths at that time. One of the reasons why the gang decided to persecute the communists was because they could get income from the American movie box office, and the communists opposed the introduction of American movies. The girlfriend of one of the gangsters was Chinese, but he was too ruthless Chinese, so when he saw a Chinese cut one, he didn't even let his girlfriend's father let go.
In the film, they asked repeatedly that in order to make excuses for their killings, they found various reasons. It is said that the communists were cruel and thought of this as a war rather than a simple gang killing. But are they cruel to us? Several people are thinking about anti-corruption, and after deliberation, they still feel that the communists must not be cruel by themselves. What they wanted to do back then was: turn the gangsters in American movies into their real life. They learned the methods of murder in movies and dressed like the United States. The clothes of the gangster will only be more cruel than in the movie.
It seems that this movie is looking at the United States. These people who continue to claim that they are pursuing freedom and opposing communism turn out to be said: Indonesia is over-democratic and not as stable as it was during the military government. Why does it seem that when I watch it, I feel that this movie is not only about the United States? Are there any rare stories in the world that regard dissidents as enemies and slash at others with youthful blood? Take a look at the time of the incident described in the movie: 1966... it was another fever worldwide.
Who made this film? Once I found the country of origin, there was no suspense: Europe. Check the director again. He is actually an American, but he lives in Denmark and graduated from Harvard University. The film has won multiple awards in Europe, but not in the United States.
