Very good at choosing scripts

Regarding movies that criticize Hollywood, David Lynch’s "Mulholland Road" is still ranked first in my mind so far, but this "Star Map", which was shortlisted for the Cannes competition last year, also surprised me a bit. It was boring to watch the first 20 minutes at first. What does Hollywood gossip have to do with me? Several groups of characters who took turns didn't see any relationship, but were confounded by the jargon of the movie circles. However, the more I look at it, the more interesting it becomes. Director Cronenberg is very good at choosing scripts. The core of this seemingly satirical Hollywood story implies alienation of interpersonal relationships, which coincides with his previous classic works of horror.

The previous work "Metropolis" is still using an abstract experimental style to explore the financial crisis. I didn't expect this one to be quite close to life, even a worldly dog-blood drama: mental illness, brother and sister incest, unspoken shadow circles, and wanderlust. Child stars, middle-aged actresses who can hardly get rid of their mother's fame, etc., in Southern California, a dream-making kingdom where the sun is shining, the shadow of the coconut trees, and the drunken gold fans, all the characters become both ridiculous and sad.

The director is not only good at choosing scripts, but also very cleverly. The repeated appearance of fantasy scenes creates a weird and uneasy atmosphere out of thin air in the mediocre life-like plot, and the indifferent environmental design and photography angle can also smell a little surly. This atmosphere secretly fits the mental state of the main character. "Fire", a mysterious symbol that has been mentioned many times, is used to connect and construct the kinks of the two groups of characters. It can be described as a lot of effort, but you can also see the director's superb narrative skills, although a stunt scene near the end is a bit superfluous. .

Julianne Moore’s acting skills have been confirmed again. The outdated actress she portrayed can be said to be in the woods. Her acrid and ridiculous face makes people both sympathetic and hateful. The Cannes film queen's laurel is well deserved. It happens that this year there is still a work that hit the Oscars, Still Alice, and the Oscars queen throne is believed to be in her pocket.

Best Actress in Cannes 2014. It is said that the final special effects are really too shit, but the illusion and criticism are still good.

David Cronenberg estimates that people who like it will like it very much, and people who don't like it will always dislike that kind of director. His films have never been below the standard. The new film "Star Map" is indispensable for more than 30 years of neuroticism, mystery, illusion, hysteria and indifferent satire, a glimpse of the unspoken Hollywood rules, the actress Julianne Moore fights too much, and the 3P has come in again. The best performers are the small nerves of Mia Huasikowski and Ivan Bird.
