In 2002, a train full of Hindu pilgrims departed from Ayodia and returned to Gujarat. At a small station (which is also the seat of the Muslim community), there were conflicts between Hindus and Muslim hawkers. During the conflict, Muslims burned a carriage and dozens of Hindus who had not had time to escape died. This incident turned into an ethnic conflict, and war broke out between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat and surrounding provinces.
