Written in front:

The release of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy 20 years ago can be said to be the enlightenment of a generation of fantasy fans in China. The re-screening of the 4K version of the movie this year gave me a feeling of excitement for a lifetime. I went to watch the 3-hour IMAX version last night. Although the plot is already familiar to me, under the big screen, the majestic and magnificent scene of the movie is still outdated even today. Whether it's the young Ned Stark, the once beautiful Orlando Bloom, or even Enya's sound of nature that hasn't been heard for a long time, the three hours of watching movies are not long, but full of memories and moving.

On the occasion of the re-screening of this series, I wanted to write something. I have written a series of articles related to "Silmaranth" and "Unfinished Tales" before. Originally, this time I wanted to write a brief historical article based on the trilogy. But to reread a 100w+ word novel in a short period of time, it is still a bit difficult for me with limited time and energy, so it is better to write something scattered about the movie, I hope it will be helpful to everyone's watching.

Novice to popular science, the information is based on the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "The Silmarillion", "Unfinished Legends", and the Lord of the Rings Wikipedia.

01 Is it the Lord of the Rings or the Lord of the Rings?

This article is based on the mainland version of the discussion.

Whether it’s the earliest version of Yilin "Little Elf" (named after Elf was translated into a little elf), or later the Zhu Xueheng version authorized by the Taiwan Union, to the current version of Wenjing Deng Jiawan, the titles of the novels in simplified Chinese have been translated. "The Lord of the Rings."

The name of the movie introduced in mainland China has been translated as "Lord of the Rings".

The English book is called , so the Chinese translation should be called "指环王" or "魔戒之王" more accurately. The Lord of the Rings is also called The One Ring, while the ordinary Lord of the Rings is called the Ring of Power. In the First Era of Middle-earth, Sauron, a protoss, taught the high elves to produce a batch of power rings and distribute them to elves, dwarves, and humans. Among them, elves have the most powerful 3, dwarves 7 and humans 9 are . Then Sauron secretly created a supreme ring that could control these power ring, in an attempt to rule the various races of China.

The elves first discovered the secret of the supreme ring. So the three power rings were handed over to the three capable persons to be sealed for safekeeping. Where the Ring of Fire Naya several twists and turns kept by Gandalf (Gandalf in World War II when the Balrog, mouth shouting "Ring of Fire" refers to the first Naya), Ring of Rialto gas by the wizard king Elrond The Water Ring Nengya is kept by the Elf Queen Galadrell.

The dwarves have a stubborn temper and a relatively high will save, so the Lord of the Rings failed to corrupt them.

Therefore, human beings became the only race to be corrupted by the Lord of the Rings. The ring spirits who held the nine lord of the rings were the nobles of Numenor, the human kingdom. After they were corrupted, they became spirit beings whose orders were obeyed only by the supreme precepts. The two major weaknesses of Ring Spirits are: 1. Fear of the sun, almost blind in broad daylight, prefer night action; 2. Fear of water, specifically rivers and lakes, but they are not afraid of relatively shallow water such as streams. .

02 Various Races in Middle-earth

Let’s start with a picture to briefly understand the ethnic composition of Lower Middle-earth:

Race composition of Middle-earth

In Middle-earth, Iluvita is the omniscient and omnipotent God. Below Iluvita is the god named Ainu, and Ainu is divided into high-level Vera (the goddess is called Veri) and low-level Maya. In "The Lord of the Rings", Gandalf, Saruman and the villain Sauron all belong to Maya's level. And Gandalf and Saruman are also powerful wizards (scientific name Istar).

The races below the gods are the first to bear the brunt of elves and humans shaped by Iluvita. They are called first-born children and second-born children according to the order of birth. The elves have a long life (adults at around 100 years old) and eventually end in becoming a spirit body; the life span of humans is relatively short, but the life span of high-ranking human races can reach around 300 years.

After the elves and humans, there are races shaped by the vera, such as dwarves, Ente (tree people) and so on. Oc’s predecessor was an elf, and fell after being corrupted and tortured by the demon Lord Morgos. Hobbits are a branch of human beings, they are the predecessors of halflings in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Another point that needs to be explained: Guru is a hobbit corrupted by the Lord of the Rings.

Several concepts need to be clarified: half-elves, halflings, and half-orcs. The half-elf half is the half-hybrid, which refers to the mixed blood of humans and elves. Elrond is the most famous half-elf that has mixed blood into the dark. Halflings are half-halves, and their body is shorter than humans. Half-orcs are a relatively confusing concept. In "Lord of the Rings", Oc=orc=half-orc=orc=goblin, I personally prefer the term orc. Half-orc (half-orc) I tend to refer specifically to the official race in dragons and dungeons, which are also half-orcs, and are mostly descendants of female humans and male orcs. In Warcraft/World of Warcraft, the orcs (orc). Therefore, the title of "Half Orcs", which was endorsed by Jay Chou for Wow back then, was somewhat confusing.

If you look up the genealogy, Elrond has inherited the blood of several major branches of the Elves and the major families of the Humans.

03 How was the whereabouts of the Supreme Ring discovered?

First of all, we must briefly sort out the past and present lives of the Supreme Ring.

Sauron created the Supreme Ring in the Second Age of Middle-earth. At the end of the Second Age, elves and humans united against the dark forces of Dolgurdu. Isildu (the ancestor of Aragorn) cut off Sauron's fingers and obtained the Supreme Ring. However, after being tempted by the Lord of the Rings, he failed to melt it in the Doomsday Volcano. Instead, he died after being betrayed by the Lord of the Rings in the Golden Iris Marsh, and the ring sank to the bottom of the river.

In the Third Age, after killing his companion, Smigo the Hobbit obtained the Supreme Ring that sank to the bottom of the river, and was corrupted by it to become a monster Guru. Later, Bilbo Baggins accidentally obtained the Lord of the Rings from Guru and designed it as his own. This is the main storyline of The Hobbit.

From the defeat of Sauron to the reappearance of the Supreme Ring in the Shire, an entire era has passed. During this period, Sauron was actually looking for the whereabouts of the supreme ring. In fact, he also located the Guru very early, but several factors caused him to miss the opportunity to retrieve the ring.

First, underestimate the enemy. The Supreme Ring fell into the hands of the weak Hobbit, causing Sauron to relax his vigilance. Second, Guru's deception. During the interrogation, Guru deliberately confused the location of Shire. Sauron estimated that the geographical knowledge was not very good, so it took him a long time to discover that Charles Lidogul was far away. Third, Saruman's betrayal. After Saruman rebelled against the White Dao Society, he nominally formed an alliance with Sauron. In fact, he wanted to take the Lord of the Rings as his own. He provided Sauron with a lot of false news, which also delayed Sauron's pace in finding the Supreme Ring. Fourth, Sauron's entanglement. Sauron finally realized that after the Supreme Ring was in the Shire, he did not send the Ring Spirit to search for it immediately. Instead, he launched a slamming war because he did not want others to discover that he had found the whereabouts of the Lord of the Rings.

How did Gandalf discover the whereabouts of the Supreme Ring? He heard the flaws in Bilbo Baggins' bragging. How did Saruman discover the Supreme Ring in the Shire? Because he found that Gandalf often smoked tobacco leaves from the Shire, he felt that Gandalf's frequent visits to the Shire was strange, so he followed the vine and deduced that the Supreme Precept must be related to the Hobbit.

04 What is the Baidaohui?

From left to right: Saruman, Gandalf, Elrond, Galadrell

The White House, also known as the Council of the Wise, was established in the Third Age to fight against the forces of darkness -at the time, it was Sauron and his minions. The leader of the White House is Saruman, and the other main members are Gandalf, Elrond, Galadrell and Cildan. Childan did not appear in "The Lord of the Rings". He was a high elf and the former holder of the ring of elf fire. Later, this ring was handed over to Gandalf for safekeeping. It is very interesting that, except for Saruman, the main members of the White Dao Society are or have been holders of the three precepts of the elves.

And it was Saruman who coveted the Supreme Ring, and finally betrayed the White Daohui and turned to Sauron and his dark forces.

05 Other Grass Snake Gray Line

Gandalf visited Bilbo, and the map marked "Lonely Mountain" on the table hinted at the plot location in The Hobbit that had not yet been filmed.

Gandalf and Bilbo smoked, and the smoke formed the shape of the spaceship crossing. In the history of Middle-earth, Eyarendil was the first to drive a spacecraft to Amen Island in the west, seeking help from the gods to fight against evil humans (half-elves, half-humans) . Going to the west means being able to live forever, and it is also the ultimate desire of most middle-earth creatures in their lives.

The star of Eyarendil’s star was presented to Frodo by Galadrell in a crystal bottle in "The Fellowship of the Ring".

Oul Sancta, Saruman ridiculed Gandalf's love of smoking, implying that he had smoked from Gandalf, and understood that the Supreme Lord of the Ring must have some connection with the Hobbit.
