Hail Mary is about the process of a young girl transporting drugs and crossing the border, as well as the various dangers encountered. In this realistic film reflecting the real life conditions of Colombian people and the proliferation of drug smuggling. Through a detailed description of a Colombian girl's "human drug transport" process, the director vividly showed the current situation of Colombian society to the audience.
Through Maria’s experience, the film exposes the crime of drug cartels using a woman's body as a means of transportation for profiteering. The film is very calm, but it looks shocking. Although the plot is simple, it is shocking. In particular, the detailed description of human drug transport from production to ingestion in the film is even more disturbing and surprising.
In the character setting, the director cleverly designed the characters and personality traits around Maria. There is a sharp contrast between the thoughtfulness of the decent exploiting boss and the leader of the drug dealer, which has an ironic taste. But it has to make us think.
Several women in the film also hinted at several directions in Maria's life. Maria’s sister transports drugs to build a house for her family, but the money is always used up. After enjoying the life of a rich person, she will take risks again, and the result is only two kinds: one is caught smuggling across the border and going to jail like the blond woman. The second is that the capsule broke in the body like Lucy and was finally taken by a drug dealer by caesarean. Lucy is very miserable and very pitiful. His purpose of smuggling drugs is just to see her sister who hasn’t seen each other in four years, but after experiencing the sweetness, she also wants to stop like a drug addict and can’t, once. This time he took the risk and finally embarked on the road of death. Lucy's sister, a Colombian immigrant, lives in a difficult and difficult life. The family is crowded in a small house, but she has a happy family. Although I am about to give birth, I still need to go to work and maintain my family life. But I can see that she is very happy. Although the film did not show how Maria ended up in the end, the final few minutes of zooming and illusory processing at the airport actually told the audience that Maria decided to stay in the United States for the sake of her child.
The last few minutes have revealed Maria's future. But I think the performance is a bit verbose. There should be several shots in the film that show Maria's future. 1. She went to take a B-ultrasound. 2. In the car, she looked at the B-ultrasound list with a happy expression on her face. 3. Sister Lucy's statement. 3. Those flower shops on the roadside. These passages have all hinted that Maria will stay in the United States for the sake of her children, and finally left a warm hope after the sadness.
The title of this film comes from the "Blessed, Maria, you are full of grace" in the "Bible". And I also hope that the heroine Maria will receive God's grace after suffering some painful ordeals. Everything is for the sake of life, more for the child, and may God protect her.
