The tragedy looks back
on February 12, 1993, JonVenables and Robert Thompson played truant from St Mary’s Church of England Elementary School in Walton. They came to the local shopping mall and appeared on the closed-circuit television of the mall. The video showed that they were observing other children at random and choosing a target. Before the kidnapping, the two tried to take another child away. At that time, their conversation about "taking one of the two" (taking one of the two) was overheard by the mother with two children. She thought they wanted to steal. Later, it was reported that they wanted to take one of the two children, lead him outside, and push him into the passing traffic, causing an accident in heavy traffic. An official commented that the killing of James Bulger was not a simple opportunistic crime, it has been systematically planned. "They knew what they were doing, and they planned to kill a child from the beginning."

On the same afternoon, James Bulger followed his mother to the shopping center and entered a shop. Ms. Bulger found that her son was missing. He wandered alone in front of the store, and was watched by two boys. They approached to talk to him, gained his trust, and finally took him away. This scene was captured by a closed-circuit television camera at 15:39.

The boys took James on a winding walk 2.5 miles to the side of a river. They pushed James to the ground and injured his head and face. A witness discovered that one of the boys was kicking James in the ribs.

As they continued to walk, 38 people saw them. Some reported seeing James' bruised face, while others reported that he was laughing. It seemed that the boys were taking turns hurting him and distracting him. Two passersby came up to question them suspiciously, but they claimed that James was his brother or were justified by saying that he was lost and they were looking for the local police station. Finally they took James to a railway line near an abandoned station.

The unbelievable violence
established in the trial later showed that a boy threw blue paint to make a model on James’ face. They also kicked him and beat him with bricks, stones, and a 22-pound (10-kg) iron rod. he. They then stuffed the battery into his mouth. As a result of being hit in the head by an iron rod, James fractured his skull and died. As the mother of this little boy who was hurt by extreme violence, she could not accept the cruel reality, so she made her request not to tell herself in court that James suffered the most.

Before the two boys left, they put James on the rails and pressed gravel on his head, hoping that a train would kill him and create the illusion of an accident. Two days later, the forensic doctor who found James's body confirmed that the child's body was indeed crushed by a train.

This appalling crime caused great anger in Liverpool. The family of one of the boys was detained for questioning but was later released. There was a breakthrough in the case. A woman saw the contents of a surveillance video from a shopping mall on TV. She recognized the two children as local gangsters. She then called the police, and when the police took the boys away, they were surprised by the two immature faces.

At first, the two boys did not confess the crimes they had committed. Then the two began to accuse each other of being responsible for the murder. Finally, the police confirmed that Robert Thompson, who had no remorse at all, was the mastermind. Later, the forensic doctor also confirmed that the paint on their clothes was the same as that on the corpse. There were blood stains on their shoes. Through DNA testing, the blood stains on Thompson's shoes matched James's.

The two were charged with murder on February 22, 1993. They became the youngest person in England and Wales to be charged with murder in the 20th century.
