People alive and dead

Silver Bear Award for Best Screenplay at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

Samantha Morton, the heroine of "Synonyms of New York", acts as the heroine in this film.

The protagonist Ben Foster is a bad boy professional. Both "The Mechanic" and "Yuma Town" are both bad. The performance of this film is super good, at least I still have a bit of sexy charm.

The plot is a pain. It has been known from "Saving Private Ryan" that the death messenger is not a good job, let alone the Iraq war, which is inherently controversial.

But I believe in one point of view. The film expresses not pain, but rebirth. The past is gone, and the people who stayed should continue their lives.

The Messenger quotes

  • Olivia Pitterson: Did you ever loose anybody?

Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery: Yeah. Friends, over there. My father, during peace time, drunk driver.

Olivia Pitterson: Did they catch him?

Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery: No, my father was the drunk driver.

  • Captain Tony Stone: You gotta wake the fuck up! You're not in high school, you're not in a fuckin' rock band, you're in the Army.

Staff Sergeant Will Montgomery: Yeah, I know. I know I'm in the Army. I gave blood to the Army. I got blown up in a fire-fight that lasted longer than your entire war. I didn't sunbath in Kuwait with the rest of the POGs.
