Freud's Self

I don’t know how many people know about this famous modern psychologist—Freud, or have read his works. But I believe that many people have heard of these words, "intrinsic self", "self" and "superego". The id-a beast governed by instinct, brutality, sex, possessiveness, self-interest. Ego——You who are watching this film review now suppress your desires and selectively release your desires, cowardly and strong, cruel and forbearing. The superego-a god above desire (very echoes that everyone in Buddhist philosophy is a metaphor for Buddha) tells you to be kind, to give, to share, and to surpass the control of instinct. Returning to this movie, a perceptual comment, this is one of the few movies I have seen in these years that makes me feel depressed and desperate. (The other two are "The Mist" and the other is "Horror Cruise") I actually watched it for the first time at 2am, and I couldn't sleep for a long time after watching it. In meditation, I thought of Freud's thesis on human nature.
First spoiler, this is a story about the doomsday, most of the story happened in a basement. The background of the story is explained at the beginning of the film. A nuclear bomb exploded in downtown New York. People fled in panic. Eight people were lucky enough to squeeze into the underground shelter of an apartment building built by a retired firefighter. There were food and water reserves in it, and 8 survivors began to wait for rescue...until a group of armed men in nuclear, biological and chemical protective suits appeared. However, the purpose of these people was not to find survivors. They took the survivors first. Wendy, the little girl in the middle school, was about to kill everyone who was left. The survivors rebelled and killed the armed men. However, the little girl was used as an experiment. In the end, in order to prevent the people from escaping, the gate of the basement was blocked by armed men from the outside. People were trapped in the basement, but fortunately the food was still sufficient for the time being... After a period of life, the basement’s The owner, Mickey, was found to have stored enough supplies in the secret room, but falsely claimed that the supplies were scarce. People were so angry that Mickey was tied up, and Bobby and others finally took control of the entire basement...As time passed, people began to despair and began to be psychologically distorted. The demon (the id) in human nature took over the body. Everyone begins to expose their own nature, cruel, cowardly, abnormal, indifferent...
The villain in the film has gone through a process of turning from a human into a demon. When there is hope, everyone preserves their humanity, abides by the original rules, accepts the guidance of the superego, and cares about the feelings of others in the group. In the film, the demon man number one, the brother of the bandage man once accepted everyone’s expectations and walked out of the basement alone to find the little girl who was captured. At that time, he said to the old woman who was later abused by him, "I will do my best. ". At that time, because of hope, he was more like a hero, and Hero Zhuan was the first and most complete person to turn into a demon. When the gate was welded, everyone lost hope of going out, and food began to be scarce, he became violent, blood type, there is a detail in the movie, the devil male number one hair began to fall out, his eyes turned red, obviously received Radiation influences. When he thought he would die in this dark and desperate basement, his superego disappeared completely, demons appeared, vented his sexual desire, abused others, and gave to others the possessiveness and sense of control brought about by them. The new driving force for his survival, the change of man-hero-beast requires only one factor change, that is, hope-despair. If there is an end of the world, we can imagine what we will do. The original moral standards and survival rules will definitely be replaced by the weak and the strong, because the world that has lost the space of reason will appear the most original of us, subject to the most original desires. Dominated by us, the desire for food and water in the movie is the manifestation of appetite and survival, and the desire for women is the manifestation of primitive sexual desire. Beasts do not consider other people's feelings. They are instinctively controlled to do what is most conducive to their survival. The Demon Man is the most radically changed of the eight people. Heroes and demons are often separated by a thin line. This is like the movie where Lucifer, the most beautiful and holiest in Western mythology, eventually becomes Satan.
The second demon man has also been a hero. When others were unwilling to deal with the corpse, he stood up and did something that made him sick and timid. It is not a contribution to do what he likes to do alone. It’s true dedication to do what you don’t like. Obviously, the demon man at that time was still under the control of the superego, because the door was not welded to death at that time, and Mickey didn’t tell everyone about the food at that time. It's almost gone. There are a few details worthy of recollection. One is the tears of the devil man 2 when he was shaved by the man, the other is his expression when he put on women’s clothes and painted eyeshadow on his eyes, and he gave the weak and difficult Sam. Shaving his head and letting him give him mouth# is hideous, in fact, he is very painful! This is the reason why when he got the gun but pointed the muzzle at the Demon Male One when he finally fought, because he felt that he was not a demon yet, and he became a Demon because of the influence of the Demon Male One. I think maybe in the movie he finally shot and killed the demon man, maybe he completed an alternative salvation.
The ending of the old woman is undoubtedly the most tragic in the movie, losing her beloved child and choosing to fall. After losing her child, she has become Pandora's box. Her body and sex directly aroused the deepest instinct of the devil. She is a victim and even a murderer. The self's desire for sex finally made her lost. From the beginning of the movie, she can see that she enjoys the intercourse with the demon man. After despair, she chooses to completely release her desire. She even wants to drag the heroine to join her, trying to help the demon man. Tempt the heroine. If the demon man represents violence, then she represents sexual desire. The old woman has also become a demon, but she doesn’t seem to think that way, but in my opinion she is the most terrifying demon in the whole film. She can’t predict her ending. Maybe she’s very sad and it is right. The poor person must have something to hate, and she is also the most damnable person. (I want to say here, those who are addicted to sex, the D disk is full of people who are full of movies, you are very dangerous). There is a detail when the devil man and the man and the old woman wore a mask and had a relationship with the old woman. The old woman was begging God for forgiveness and screamed hysterically.
The lawyer man represents the cowardly and jealous self. The cowardly choice chooses to watch and protect himself in the face of violence, and even in such a situation he is very jealous of his girlfriend who likes to tie a man, there is only himself in his world, selfish. Like most people in our society, they will not become demons, and they will not choose to help demons, they just care about themselves. In the film, he tried to force a relationship with the heroine, but unfortunately he didn't finish it because of his cowardice. He tried to transform into a demon, but unfortunately he couldn't complete this process because of his weakness. When he finally got the gun, he didn't choose to shoot at the devil but finally chose to kill the bandage man he had always been jealous of. His selfishness and weakness showed the most thoroughness.
The bandage man is the embodiment of the indifferent self. His brother is the number one demon man and the most thorough demon in the film. He is fully capable of stopping his brother’s atrocities, but he chose to be indifferent. When the old woman chose to ask for help, he even chose to stop the heroine. Rescue the old woman. It’s not like those people who donate money in society, and they don’t donate and tell you that the donated money will not go to the hands of the donor, just like you give a beggar a piece of money on the street, and he tells you nearby, These beggars are not worthy of charity, and those who shouldn't be charitable have a face. I think most of us are either lawyer men or bandage men.
The black man who died first died of his own wisdom (maybe only the word is inappropriate). He was the first to suspect and discover Mickey's storage room, and he has always been calm and logical. Maybe we can quote the seven deadly sins here. Seven deadly sins, the 13th century Dominican priest St. Thomas Aquinas listed various manifestations of evil deeds. The Catholic doctrine states that "according to the views of John Gesian and Pope Gregory I, distinguish the major evils often encountered by the believers". The meaning of "significant" here is that these evil deeds belong to the original sin, for example, the desire of thieves stems from greed. Arrogance, jealousy, rage, laziness, greed, gluttony and lust. I think it is more appropriate to use the original sin of arrogance to explain the death of black people. The black man could try to communicate with Mickey, but he did not do so. He believed in his own judgment and his abilities, and finally died on his own judgment.
I think isolation should have two meanings, one is physical isolation, that is, the eight people are trapped in a small space, and the other is spiritual isolation. The mental isolation should be mainly manifested in two characters, one is the original owner of the basement, Mickey, and the other is the hostess who finally escaped from the basement. And the one who finally completed the detachment, physically represented the heroine, and finally walked out of the basement in the fire and walked into a larger isolated world where no hope can be seen in the gloomy sky. It was Mickey who completed the detachment mentally. When he looked at the photo of his dead wife in the flames and smiled, I think all the director wanted to express was on Mickey's face.
After watching this movie, I asked myself, is the end of the century really terrible?
