I just finished watching muerder by death. At first, I didn’t quite understand the ending. I searched various film reviews on the Internet, but there were different opinions. I finally decided to calm down and think about it. First of all, I always think about the question of whether the housekeeper, the female chef, and Mr. Shuang are the same person or three different people, or even if two of the roles are one person and the other role exists independently (it seems to need to be arranged and combined). They are three independent individuals. We can see that the three characters in the film are very different in terms of gender, age and body, and even their various physical defects: Mr. Shuang does not have a pinky finger, and the butler is a blind person (I think he is not Pretending), the female chef could not speak or hear (although it turned out to be false afterwards). Such a stark difference, I think it is the choreographer’s suggestion that the murder did happen. It was not a person’s self-writing and self-direction. The so-called short "Mr. Double" and the blind housekeeper were indeed murdered. However, the identity of the murderer is estimated to be the real Mr. Shuang (because at the end of the film review, you can see that the "cooking lady" does not have a pinky finger). In this way, the clues of the whole movie are basically smooth, but there is still a doubt, that is why the chef said that she did not know English at first, and then she wrote an English note when she informed the housekeeper that she had died. I think this is also true. The clue given to us by the choreographer suggests that the murderer was the "cooking lady" who exposed the flaw, that is, the real Mr. Shuang.

Fun. Very stylish. Lots of anti-stereotype settings. There are also a lot of yellow jokes. . In fact, this ending is not very satisfactory, we are still angry detective story readers╮(╯▽╰)╭

Seriously doing jokes, spoofing a lot of detectives, the effect is quite good, the funny movie shot in 1976 is really funny.

Murder by Death quotes

  • Willie Wang: [DELETED SCENE, RESTORED FOR TELEVISION - Willie rejoins the others after covering up Twain's body] ... I can't believe you missed it, Pop. The world's five greatest living detectives, and not one of you noticed that *Twain was clutching a note in his hand!*

Sidney Wang: Give it to me.

Willie Wang: Oh, no; it's mine.

Milo Perrier: Oh, give it to your father, you idiot!

Willie Wang: [gloating] "Idiot?" We'll see who's the idiot, Mr. Perrier! The $1 million goes to whoever solves the crime, and that could be me just as easily as you! I've got more brains than my father gives me credit for! "#3 Adopted Son?" I'm sick and tired of being just your #3 Adopted Son. I'm *Willie Wang, Young Detective!* This clue belongs to me, and nobody's getting it from me, you understand? Nobody...!

Sam Diamond: [with his gun leveled at Willie's head] Better stand back, Tess. I don't want you to get hurt when the bullet comes out his other ear.

    [takes the note and reads]

Sam Diamond: "Please call dairy and cancel future deliveries of milk; Lionel Twain deceased."

    [hands back the note]

Sam Diamond: So much for your clue, kid.

Willie Wang: [very sheepish] Uhm... Sorry about that, Dad.

  • Willie Wang: Some fog, eh, Pop?

Sidney Wang: I've already heard the weather report. Drive, please.

Willie Wang: It's as thick as pea soup. Not a soul around for miles. Know what l think? Perfect place for a murder.

Sidney Wang: Conversation like television set on honeymoon: unnecessary.

Willie Wang: Where are we going, anyway, Pop? Who is this Mr. Twain? What'd he mean, "dinner and a murder"?

Sidney Wang: Questions like athlete's foot: After a while, very irritating. To stop car, please.

    Willie Wang: What's wrong?

Sidney Wang: Stop car, please. Shut engine off, please. Listen.

Willie Wang: I don't hear nothing. What do you hear?

Sidney Wang: Double negative and dog.
