The film tells the history of three generations of a family and a man. The Texas planter came to Maryland to buy stallions and fell in love with the eldest daughter of the horse farmer. Within a few days, they fell in love, got married, and then returned to their home in Texas together. The farmer lived with his sister. The sister saw her younger brother's wife very unhappy and thought she had taken her place, so she had to take the anger she had brought from home. The stubborn horse and the stubborn person fought with each other. In the end, the horse fractured and the person was injured. A few hours later, the farmer's and sister died. A worker in the farmer’s family is very much loved by her sister, but not to the favor of the farmer. In the sister's will, a piece of land was given to the worker. The farmer wanted to send him with money, but the worker refused. After that, the workers searched for oil in that field every day, hoping to get rich. The farmer’s wife gradually became familiar with everything on the farm, and the couple worked hard. There are often conflicts between couples and quarrels occur from time to time. A few years later, they had three children, one son and two daughters. The farmer wanted his son to inherit the farm, and forced him to ride a horse when he was four years old, scaring his son to tears. Seeing this scene, the wife decided to take the children back to her natal home. The farmer who missed his wife and children came to his wife's house a few days later and was forgiven by her. Not long after returning to Texas, oil came out of the worker's land, and he became rich ever since. More than a decade has passed, the children have grown up, and the workers’ oil companies have grown bigger and bigger. The three children of the farmer have their own ideas. The son wants to be a doctor, one daughter wants to study animal husbandry and plans to marry her boyfriend to start a small farm, and the other daughter is obsessed with the success of the workers and is very fond of him. A few years later, after a daughter got married, her husband participated in World War II with another young man on the farm, and the son also had a girlfriend. At this time, the farmer finally agreed to cooperate with the workers' oil company, and their family became rich. After the end of World War II, the farm youth died in battle, the daughter's Lao Gongping returned, and his son married an Indian girl as his wife. Within a few years, they also had children. After the war, the government decided to hold a celebration party for the oil giants. The workers wanted to give speeches, and the farmers decided to participate under the stimulation of others. As a result, the farmers and their families rushed to the venue one after another. However, the son's wife received discrimination everywhere because of her status as an Indian. When the son knew that all this was arranged by the workers, she decided to settle the account with him. In the meeting place where all the guests had already acted, the son fought with the workers, but he was easily knocked down by the workers. Seeing his son being bullied, my dad stepped forward, but when he saw the worker's pitiful appearance, he didn't take any action. The workers who returned to the meeting fainted in front of everyone, making a fool of themselves. The daughter who likes workers is looking for When working as a worker, I heard his confession. It turns out that the worker has always liked the farmer’s wife, which is her mother. Upon hearing this, the daughter left the worker. On the way home, the suffocated farmer fought with people in the restaurant. After returning home, the farmer and his wife recalled most of their lives and continued their lives.

The name of the movie is "The Giant's Biography", I don't understand it very much, so I have to understand it from the English name of the movie. After checking the translation, I realized that Giant means "giant", "great man, outstanding person", "big company, powerful organization", and has no biographical meaning at all. The name of the movie is translated like this, which is too far from the original text. Of course, there is another name in the movie called "Giant", this translation is quite appropriate.

Since the name of the movie is called "Giant", contacting the plot of the movie, you can know that the film is about decades of farmer family. They are a "giant" because they have a huge pasture. However, through the 201-minute narration of the movie and the decades of life of the three main characters, nothing was felt. It can only be seen that as time goes by, the characters are getting old, the children are growing up, and the times are changing. The content of the film is basically the life record of the characters in the play, and there is nothing unique. Simply put, the content of the movie is like a running account, unremarkable. In addition, in the course of these decades, the lives of the three characters have not undergone major ups and downs, nor have they undergone any major changes. Of course, the overnight wealth of the workers must be ruled out. The three of them experienced neither romantic love nor tragedy caused by birth, old age, sickness or death, nor life tragedy caused by changes in the world. Among the three of them, the farmer and the couple only have children, raise children, and then take care of the children's children when the children grow up, while the workers are engaged in oil extraction, oil extraction, oil extraction, and purchase of land to continue oil extraction! In short, the story of the film looks very epic. It spans more than ten years and seems to be so magnificent. In fact, it is just a running account in essence, and it is really calm as water without any ripples.

The story like a running account also makes the movie without any deep themes. There are almost no deep aspects of the content touched by the film, just showing some fur. Discrimination against Mexican immigrants, Indians, and blacks, contempt for ordinary workers, and women's inferior social status to men, etc., are all mentioned in one stroke without in-depth description. The film’s description of love is also very simple, only the small section at the beginning of the film where the farmer and the eldest daughter fell in love at first sight, and the worker’s crush on the farmer’s wife for decades. In addition, the film does not discuss the background and meaning of oil at all. In short, after watching this movie, it couldn't give people any thoughts, and 210 minutes was wasted in vain. Therefore, this film only played a descriptive role, recording life on a Texas farm in the United States in the first half of the last century, allowing the audience to understand the living conditions in that period and place, and nothing more.

The other aspects of the film are quite satisfactory. The film’s costumes, styles, and setting are all in line with the film’s plot, but there is nothing particularly outstanding. However, in this movie, the scenery of the wilderness of the western United States can be seen enough, of course, if it can be regarded as the scenery. The desolate land full of yellow sand and flying rocks allowed the audience to see the real West. In addition, because of the large time span of the film, it also caused some jumps in its narrative. For example, the farmer’s children grew up overnight, and World War II ended in a few minutes. After a few pictures, the children’s children Was born. Such a jumping description looks very awkward, and the movie uses subtitles to indicate the time.

The only motivation for me to watch this film is the heroine actor Elizabeth Taylor. She was only 24 years old when she played the film, but she finished most of the heroine's life, revealing her superb acting skills. And Elizabeth Taylor's beauty is really amazing. It is not an exaggeration to call it "extremely beautiful." Which man would not be tempted to see her? The actor Rock Hudson is a handsome man, but in this film there is nothing more than handsome, especially when the actor looks unreal when he is old. Carroll Baker's daughter who loves workers is very beautiful. After checking the information, she found out that she was one year older than "mother" Elizabeth Taylor. Haha, it must be fun when filming. Another protagonist James Dean, who just watched "Revolt without a Cause" starring him, still feels the same to me. I don't know why he is so famous, is it because he is handsome and died early?

In general, a very gorgeous pseudo-epic film looks lively, but in fact there is not much value in the core. It is certainly not because of the quality of the film that I can be selected for AFI100, but because of the history and actors of the film.
