Martyr Kitahara Mizuki

Kitahara Miyuki, a female junior high school student, is designated as a "martyr" in the novel, but it is also full of weight in the movie but easily overlooked. The role of Meiyue was already spoken by the character shortly after her appearance,

"Teacher, this class is abnormal."

In other words, Meiyue is perceiving and observing all "abnormalities" from the perspective of a normal person. It is the difference between her and the warm-blooded teacher. The latter has a complete lack of understanding of what is happening, while the former has a complete understanding of what is happening.

Meiyue also has darkness in her heart. She admires luna sea (she should not be luna sea herself), but the poison she prepares is for suicide, so she also despises life and understands other people who despise life, including the last Shuya who killed her. But to her, these darkness is abnormal and shouldn't be revealed. Although she understands what is happening, she believes in some kind of "normal" existence, so she does not bully Watanabe, and believes that Yuko has no intention of doing something like bleeding in milk, and then she says to Yuko, "Xuya only But because I care about my mother...". Therefore, she lives up to the name of "beautiful" with a sense of purity. She stayed not because she didn't know anything, but because she still believed. Her position is in a third-party position, and Yuko also lists her as an "unrelated victim" like her daughter.

Ironically, although her position is against Yuko’s revenge action, as can be seen from her reaction when meeting with Yuko, it is because of her that Yuko’s revenge action was successful, and she eventually replaced Mei. Yue had his own revenge. In Mizuki's view, Yuko's revenge action is also abnormal, which coincides with Sakuramiya.

However, Meiyue's death was definitely not an accident, but inevitable. Because from the very beginning, Mizuki was destined to be a martyr, and to some extent it was another "Sakuramiya" that weakened the female version. It is precisely because she perceives, understands, and even accepts all abnormalities, but at the same time firmly believes in the existence of "normal", which finally led to her having to be martyred for "normal". She purely loves Xiuzai, understands and accepts everything about him. Treating students in this way was once regarded as the only way by educators, and as a result, she was killed just because she stated the facts to Xiuya. Her death also signified the collapse of a certain reality normality, and the "abnormality" became a normality. So "Mizuki" and "Yumi" and "Sakuramiya" are dead, while Yuko lives and completes his revenge.

Note: I haven't read the original novel, but it is said that in the novel, Mizuki is more dark and cold, loves Naoki in his heart, and Xiuya entertains each other, and has murderous intent towards Werther. It seems that in the novel, she despises life more seriously, and believes in normality weaker, and finally makes her life a sacrifice. If this is the case, the adaptation and use of the role of Meiyue in the film is quite outstanding and successful.

. --------
I have finished reading the novel. The part about Meiyue in the

novel needs to be added as follows: 1. In the novel, Xiuzai said Meiyue looks ordinary and has no characteristics
. 2. In the novel Meiyue thinks it is straight. Shu is her first love, and she regards Xiuzai as her "only partner" after being bullied, and her feelings for Xiuzai are born from this. Xiuzai saw Meiyue go to buy medicine, and he was attracted by Meiyue's mind. He thought that Meiyue wanted to kill as much as himself, and was disappointed when he discovered that Meiyue just wanted to imitate Luna Sea but didn't want to kill. Judging from Miyue's own and the last Xiuzai's description, Miyue's feelings for Xiuzai are likely to be pure and true.
3. In the novel, Meiyue describes many details about Werther. She discovered that Werther was not only stupid, but only admired Sakuramiya, trying to satisfy her illusion of "being a good teacher" through some kind of performance, rather than really caring about the students. She was dissatisfied that Witte indirectly forced Naoki to death. In the end, before accusing Witte, she used the polygraph provided by Xiuzai to verify Witte's true thoughts, and then she made an accusation against Witte.
4. In the novel, the full text of Mizuki's letter to Moriguchi is written. In the novel, Mizuki has already written this letter and sent it to literary journals for submission, and hopes to let Moriguchi see it. But the novel does not clearly indicate whether Moriguchi saw this letter. There is no plot of Mizuki's meeting with Moriguchi. Meiyue did not reveal Xiuza's Oedipus complex in her letter, but Meiyue only said it in the final quarrel with Xiuzai.
5. There is no discussion about the weight of life in the novel. In the end, Meiyue just asked the teacher what he thinks about sanctioning the two men.
6. The novel hints at some things that Meiyue may not be known about: For example, Xiuya said that Meiyue had been missing for a week and no one looked for her, Meiyue said that she had never rebelled against her family, so it was okay to just find an excuse to return late.
7. The relationship between Mizuki and Naoki is closer than shown in the movie. Mizuki's house is very close to Naoki's house. In the lower grades of Mizuki Elementary School, she often plays with Naoki's second sister. Mizuki also visits Naoki's house often.
8. After Meiyue confessed to Moriguchi, she believed that morality still existed in Moriguchi's heart, so she went to use medicine to verify that there was no blood in the milk afterwards (the milk was dropped by Sakuramiya).
9. Mizuki tried to let Naoki know the true state of milk during her last home visit, but failed to pass the letter to Naoki in the end.
10. Meiyue thinks like Luna Sea is another self, not admiration or identification. The reason is that Luna Sea is related to his own name, and the medicines he collects are the same as himself. Xiuya thinks Miyue's statement about the latter is suspicious. Judging from the fact that Meiyue mentioned her parents, it is possible to rule out Meiyue as Luna Sea.
11. Mizuki was killed because she said that Naoki was her first love, and she pointed out the problem with Shuya’s mother
12. Moriguchi actually believed that her design was also one of the factors that caused Mizuki’s death (but she said Should not shirk responsibility, so Xiuzai should be responsible)
13. In the novel, Meiyue was strangled to death by Xiuzai and was not hammered. There is also no description of her being mutilated.

In conclusion, Meiyue misses Moriguchi because of Werther's poor performance in the novel. She sympathized with Naoki who was afraid to come to school and Shuya who was bullied, and she was very dissatisfied with the bullying of the students. She was skeptical of Moriguchi's sanctions, and was so dissatisfied with Werther's stupidity and hypocrisy that she was intent on killing. Her attitude towards Shuya and Naoki can be said to be from the standpoint of protection and salvation. It can be said that she is looking at problems from a certain "tradition" or "normality" perspective. But she is not as firm as Sakuramiya. Otherwise, based on her knowledge of the situation, she can take more proactive intervention methods, such as trying to tell the truth about Naoki Milk during the second home visit, or confess Moriguchi. The incident tells Witt, rather than watching the situation slide out of control. In the end, the development of reality pushed her to extremes. It is conceivable that if she hadn't been killed by Shuya and Witte remained in office, then she would probably have killed Witte. However, she expressed her intention to kill in her submission, probably hoping to increase the chance of Moriguchi reading the letter, and hope that Moriguchi or others will stop herself, because obviously Mizuki is not the kind of person who wants to kill in order to become famous. people. She may not be inferior to the last Moriguchi in her understanding of Xiuzai, but she didn't feel any fear at all. This was not only because of her pure emotions, but also because of her attitude towards suicide. Generally speaking, although Meiyue is good at observing and thinking, her mind is still simple, hovering between good and evil. She reminds people of many children at that age who are already very active in thinking but still confused in their values. Her observations and thoughts connect various clues in the plot and guide readers to understand the "abnormal state".

In the novel, it is relatively more prominent that Miyue is good at observation and thinking, while in the movie, it is relatively more prominent that Miyue is confused and simple.

-------------------February 1 --------------------

In addition, my personal opinion, because of the beauty Tsuki and Moriguchi’s stance towards the two teenagers is opposite (especially obvious in the novel), so the film arranges for the two to meet and confront each other directly. I think it is quite interesting. This is a good arrangement.

However, in the novel, Mizuki hoped to ask Moriguchi anyway, and Mizuki also sent the manuscript to the magazine. In the movie, Miyuki's letter to Moriguchi never wanted to be sent, and Miyuki seemed to just want to talk, but didn't want to ask anything. So there was no spark in the confrontation between the two. If the two in the novel meet, I don't know what will happen.

  • Shuya Watanabe: Nobody taught me that killing people was wrong. Where other kids got read picture books and fairy tales, my mom taught me Ohm's Law and Norton's theorum. She only ever talked about electronics.

  • Yuko Moriguchi: This is my revenge. I have plunged you into the depths of hell. This is the first step towards your redemption... just kidding.
