In my opinion, this movie is the inner monologue of a middle-aged man with delusional disorder. Richard Sherman and his wife have been married for seven years and live a happy life. Like all Manhattan men, they send their wives and children on vacation every summer. And still have to stay in the hot city to work and support the family. Seeing such a scene, I think such a man is indeed great, selflessly dedicated to his family. They have indeed fulfilled the duties of a husband and a father.
After his wife left, Richard was extremely empty. So he started his own fantasy. This is how people are, and they start thinking wildly when they are empty. As a little accomplished in the workplace, Richard also longs for himself to be the object of admiration in the hearts of women around him. The departure of his wife brought him more or less a psychological imbalance. He will complain about the tedium of life and desire a kind of excitement. For a man who has been married for seven years and has been living in a peaceful and comfortable life, the biggest excitement is nothing more than "derailment". Simply, a sexy actress lives upstairs in Richard's house. Her appearance not only brought freshness to Richard's life, but also added great confusion to him.
As Richard, he instinctively wanted to approach the female star. She is so beautiful, which man is not in love with her? On the other hand, as a married man, moral constraints made him try to avoid this woman, despite her charm and resistance that convinced him.
In various struggles, Richard's soul derailed slightly. He asked the female neighbor to go out. But then his wife's reprimand appeared in his mind. He was in great pain at this time. The distress of the female neighbor made it difficult for him to get rid of, and Richard fell into a breakdown in the struggle of ethics and desire.
But let's examine the female neighbor. Although she is so charming, she has her own principles in her heart. She is sexy but not romantic. Her affection for Richard comes from Richard's enthusiasm. To put it bluntly, she did not intend to get involved in this family.
What makes me feel subtle is that at the end of the film, Richard finally figured out that he was going to go to his wife and children on vacation. Because his virtuous wife and lovely son are his most precious wealth. The female neighbor may be a beautiful episode in his happy life. The feeling between them is a faint emotion between friendship and love. And the kind of emotion that Richard finally grasped should be called "family affection."
