First of all, there must be monsters—then the unknown biological thorns are on the scene. In fact, it is no different from the T virus in "Resident Evil". What is new in the setting of horror creatures is that thorns can reconnect and reassemble various prey, similar to using toothpicks to string corpses. However, the monster's role in the film is really pitiful, and it is not even as close as the close-up given by Plasma. It's a pity to show up occasionally, or it's a small broken limb or poor light or moving too fast so that you can't see the real face.
Secondly, there must be love. So the two couples are inseparable from their love, the hostage and the captor finally join forces to deal with the monster. In the end, the fugitive showed fearless personal heroism and noble humanistic care. Not only singled out monsters, but also protected the kidnapped couple from fleeing. In the end, they sacrificed themselves to blow up the gas station and entrusted the bank key to the biology before they died heroically. Doctor, ask him to give the money to the widow of the person he killed.
Furthermore, there must be editing. I don't know if the director is Danny Boyle's fan. Some shots still borrowed from the shaking and freeze-frame technique of "28 Days of Surprise".
Finally, there must be wisdom. This is also what the film took a long time to show. Different from ordinary monster encounters, you only need to use muscles and hot weapons to solve the problem. It is not like "The Mist" discusses the human nature in front of the crisis. The film also pursues the spirit of rational scientific inquiry. Analyze unknown biological attributes and habits, formulate strategies, divide tasks, and finally escape. Although the ending is unavoidable to leave a bit of incense for this "rare" species to allow it to multiply, in general this kind of brain power + courage = survival model is still more I like to see.
As the saying goes, you can't eat a fat man in one bite. The director wanted all of the above, and the result was that there were some of each, but none of them were impressive.
PS I still suggest that this unknown creature should evolve the function of spraying "thorns" as soon as possible, which is good for reproduction~
