Maggie's
beautiful rural female doctor Maggie once had an unhappy childhood. Perhaps because of this, she became a devout Christian and brought health to people by the Lord's will. Her kindness and fraternity have won people's respect and she is a symbol of perfection for the local residents.
But the already peaceful life did not erase the shadow of the broken family in childhood. A lack of family affection prompted Maggie to blame her father for everything that happened that year. So she couldn't accept Jones' sudden arrival. She was afraid that Jones would ruin her family again. For many years, she silently did her best to bring up her two daughters. To her, there is nothing more important than protecting her family, so that when her eldest daughter Lilly asked to live in the city, she didn’t know. She couldn't explain to Lilly that she couldn't face any possible separation in her family. Lilly's request reminded her of the cruel decision of her father Jones to give up the family. She could only refuse Lilly in a cold way. .
Lilly was kidnapped by Indians. This was undoubtedly a bolt from the blue for Maggie. She knew that her strength and kindness would not be able to save her daughter, so she thought of Jones. She could only turn to Jones for help. Maybe from this time onwards, Jones was in Maggie. Some subtle changes have already begun in his heart. When the father and daughter embarked on the journey of rescuing Lilly together, for Maggie, they also embarked on a spiritual journey in pursuit of family affection. So we see that Maggie will have some psychological changes after every adventure in the course of the action. Before fighting side by side, she and Jones had a warm conversation. This is an explosion of emotional accumulation along the way. A few very ordinary sentences have the power to relieve the past. Maybe at that moment both father and daughter have completed their hearts. The quest on the road made up for the lack of emotion, but the story did not end...
Jones
He seemed to have come from a myth, with the arrogance peculiar to Apaches on his face. Jones has become more like an authentic Indian, with countless stories hidden in his deep eyes. But he is old after all. Instead of putting the amulet given to him by the wizard to his daughter and wife to save his life, he is actually starting to miss his family a bit. The heart that used to be mad always feels that something is missing, maybe it is the legendary home.
He just wanted to come and see, and didn't want to trouble anyone. Pity him has always been a cannibal savage in the eyes of his daughter. The daughter is right, there are not many people in this world who can understand him. Already used to it, the family is destined to be only a dream for him. I only blame myself for evading responsibility and falling in love with drifting when I was young. Who else can I expect to forgive? My wife is no longer there. Fortunately, I have two more granddaughters, knowing that I still have relatives and that they are all safe, so I should be content. Then let's leave quietly, maybe this is good for everyone.
Lilly was kidnapped by the Indians. Maybe Maggie's help was a bit of a surprise for him. A feeling of fatherhood is precious to Jones. The moment he stepped on horseback with Maggie, Jones really began to hope that he could be accepted by his daughter. He began another adventure that seemed to be accustomed to him, but he vaguely felt that this time was of great significance. Jones is an excellent hunter, he understands the evil and cruelty of the enemy, but this time he must not hesitate. Because when he was doing his best to save his daughter's life, he felt the power of family affection, and Jones began to understand what he had been looking for. All the way, the two frozen hearts of him and Maggie began to melt slowly until they leaned on each other. Don't know why, before the decisive battle, he especially wanted to say a few words to Maggie, just say something. Maggie asked him the meaning of the Indian name like a child, he told her, and then he got the most precious thing for him. That was the first time he saw Maggie smile. Jones may have suddenly thought of how great it would be to go home with his daughter and granddaughter earlier, but the story is not over...
Lilly
Why suffer poverty here? What's wrong with life in the city? This is Lilly's confusion. The yearning for the city led her to wear the clothes of the rich ladies in the city while doing farm work. She still couldn't understand her mother's cold rejection, and she didn't even think this home was important to her.
Suddenly one day, according to her mother, the dead grandfather appeared, and he looked like a savage Indian, which made her confused about her bloodline again. She didn't like Indians. She thought they were all demons. She liked glamour. The beautiful life made her always want to escape from this remote family, but she didn't realize that her rebellion might be inherited from her grandfather who looked like an Indian.
Unfortunately, she was kidnapped by the devilish Indians. Fortunately, she did not succumb to the demons. It is precisely because of her inherent rebellion that she began to look for opportunities to save herself. There was also a mother among the kidnapped girls. When Lilly saw the mother's persistence towards her child, she began to understand a little bit about maternal love, which gave her the courage to help her mother in a critical moment. Raise the child, and want to rescue this unknown mother together. It was a pity that everything failed. She saw this mother end her life in despair. Facing a family relationship between life and death, Lilly's heart grew and strengthened in an instant. This cruel rite of passage forced her to realize a feeling that she had been missing, so she began to understand her mother.
When a person is in a state of life and death, many of his own contradictions will be suddenly magnified. When an Indian father lost his life because of her misunderstanding and prejudice, Lilly would definitely start thinking about the meaning of life again while regretting it. This made her understand her grandfather and a kind of respect spontaneously. Because she knew that her grandfather, mother and sister must be saving herself at all costs. Finally, she realized what family meant to herself. When she and the girls escaped with the assistance of their relatives, in a sense, she also completed a kind of redemption for her loss.
The devils are chasing after him, and the decisive battle is about to begin. After finishing this battle, Lilly must want to say sorry to her mother and grandfather. The family has become the happiest hope in her heart, but the story is not over...
Dot
Dot is the youngest in the story, but it is the most complete emotionally and personally. She understands her mother, loves her sister, and accepts her grandpa. She is still young, but she is strong enough. She is an angel who maintains and integrates the whole family. She helped her mother treat patients. She was excited that she might be an Indian. She insisted on participating in the rescue of her sister. She hoped to meditate like her grandfather. He respects everyone around him, and she likes her family. She is Maggie's most precious baby, and she wears the amulet given to her by Jones. In the dangerous rescue process, she was an intersection of Jones and Maggie's two straight lines, and also an entry point for them to pursue their lost emotions in their hearts. The innocent and lovely faces seem to be arranged by God, and the love of two people makes them understand and trust each other until they fight side by side for each other. Dot asked his mother and grandpa if he could go home with them. This was the hope that Maggie and Jones wanted to say after experiencing everything together but did not have the courage to say it. A kind of family radiance made the night before the decisive battle become unusually warm, but the story did not end...
Howard
Howard once again used a perfect narrative that was unpredictable to bring us soul shock. If you feel that you just heard a thrilling story after reading it, then you should think about why Howard changed the name of the original novel from "The Last Ride" to "The Missing". The story Ma Yuan said is to explain it in a simple way. You can simply think of it as a story about the disappearance. You can also think about Howard's work in other meanings of the word Missing. Maybe the latter will make you think More interesting.
Howard always keeps his own profoundness intact, perhaps for the appreciation of the elegance and the common, or the humor of genius. He uses seemingly purely narrative lenses to provide you with extravagant thinking opportunities, and his cherishment of money always seems to have other profound meanings. A simple Missing brings out the pursuit on the two levels of reality and psychology. The important thing is that he can take this kind of nearly spiritual discussion very wonderful and beautiful. I am very fortunate to have seen this movie accidentally, and I didn't let myself miss the beauty of thunder in a silent place.
The End
How should I end this text? Suddenly thought of the warm conversation between Jones and Maggie in the movie. Jones told Maggie an Apache joke: a man saw an eagle flying by, chased it, and never returned. Many years later his wife met him in heaven and asked him why he never returned home. He said, "Because the eagle has been flying forward." How to explain this bitter joke? Can you understand the man's Missing?
