Is it a father who has toiled in the face of a son who has no brains, no education, no education, and ideals? Was it the father who endured grief and painstakingly arranged a suicide scene for his son after a masturbation accident and wrote a heartwarming suicide book? Is it the father who forwarded his ambitions and talents to his son so that he would become a "hero" admired by thousands of people? Or is it the father who is brave enough to say no to temptations like fame, wealth and sex at your fingertips?
In the movie "The World's Greatest Father", the old father Lance, played by Robin Williams, has really tossed through all the above things, but you don't think he is "great" because of this. Lance is a single father, teaches poetry as a teacher in a middle school, and has always dreamed of becoming a great writer. Before his son's accident, he was just a boring teacher, a weak lover, a low-eyed "amateur writer", and even a failed father. He is inconspicuous and unimportant in the crowd and is easily overlooked. He is not the kind of person who considers himself high and self-isolated. He wants the same as others, but the opportunities he can get are really limited. The death of his son actually became his breakthrough.
Of course, Lance still has some literary foundation, at least he is writing with sincerity and enthusiasm, and there are so many setbacks and failures experience and emotion. So when his words were conveyed by a young man—a jerk in the eyes of others and now a dead boy—people were surprised. Only from this and afterwards, people's reactions and actions made the whole thing even more absurd. Therefore, Lance’s “greatness” was promoted by those who didn’t care about him at all: empty students, hypocritical teachers, vain lovers, profit-seeking booksellers, and seeing the excitement as the joy of life or even the only thing. Comforting the broad masses of the people. They were too enthusiastic, kind, and moved, and they hoped to get everyone's affirmation that their dreams will come true. Of course, this experience is not a bad thing. Mr. Lance's dream seems to be more determined that he will continue his writing, at least this is what really makes him happy.
The dead are more trustworthy than the living. It is better to use the likes and dislikes of others as a guide than if you have no ideas. It is as real as expecting but may give birth to a stupid bastard son, extremely ironic but fucking real. This is an interesting and eye-catching story, but the movie seems to be too wordy in some places and too hasty in some places, Robin Williams is too lonely alone, a little bit of patience and concentration will be more powerful.
