This movie reminds me of Woody Allen's [Match Point]. It is also an unremarkable love triangle, and there is also a blond stunner who makes the protagonist fascinated. The latter is run through by opera, and the former also has a high-pitched male voice. The clichés about lies and betrayal are presented in a well-placed and exquisite way. Irony and sympathy, James Gray's [Two Lovers] became a sad elegy in the night.
I especially like framing. The old-fashioned apartment and the crowded neighborhood, the roof terrace where the two met, the night club that night, and a description of the gorgeous night view of the city center. Even the laundry shop run by Leonard's father. The protagonist’s parents are immigrants and have a strong non-native language accent. He said to Michelle's boyfriend: I work in my father's "company". The second shot of the film gave a close-up of the words "We love customers". The role of the parents is like a cutscene (except for the last scene of the mother played by Isabelle Rossillini), but the protagonist's family background seems to be constantly being deliberately highlighted. Humble can be imagined.
If the sideline of photography can give him more dignity. Michelle showed admiration when he heard that Leonard loves photography. (I have to say that all the subsequent plots made the heroine look extremely vulgar and superficial, seeming to have further tragic Leonard from another angle.) After raising the camera to her facing the window, he said, "I just I want to get your attention." Some words mean puns. And this camera also played an important role in another woman, Sandra. Determined to break with Michelle, he called Sandra and put down the camera. After the camera's freeze-up close-up, it is a group of still black and white photos, showing the "happy" years of the two. The camera was transferred from the photo to another family gathering, and Leonard smiled and held the camera outside the crowd.
There are also two sets of lenses that are extremely impressive. On the way to the appointment, Leonard on the train turned his eyes from the couple in front of him to the window of the car. This episode came to an end with the bewildered expression in the window. Leonard leaned over to the sleeping Michelle but didn't kiss, and we listened to his fading snort and quietly leaving in the untransformed close-up of the woman.

How can we not mention Joaquin Phoenix's performance. Indifferent, humble, disguised, and helpless. Five minutes to the countdown, the woman who walked out of the shadow told him that she could not go with him because another man had given up the family for her. "You are such a good person." A face that was gradually distorted by tears fell into complete despair.
It is not difficult to understand that this movie and this role failed to bring him any honour comparable to it. And there should be no regrets for such a low-key and gorgeous curtain call.
After desperation, Leonard returned home quietly, and the desperate outsider was rescued in time again. The only mother who knew the secret gave a meaningful glance. Sandra in the crowd was relieved, but she didn't even know it. Ring, marriage proposal, and everything is in order. The only fly in the ointment is tears.
