Jackal and Hound

Although there is no suspense in the whole film from the beginning, because everyone knows the ending, it is just that justice triumphs over evil. Ever since, the wonderful side lies in the wit and courage of the two sides. Judging right from wrong is not the key to this movie. Leaving these concepts aside, this movie is purely a wonderful contest between jackals and hounds.
Because this is a film adapted from real people and events, all the coincidences in it are not just the director’s deliberate portrayal, but they can only be classified as accidental and luck.
However, the god of destiny is not only on the side of so-called justice.
If the guy who invited Jackal home in the Turkish bath finds that Jackal is a wanted man while out; if the countess doesn’t love him so much, call the police when he shows up at her door... Then undoubtedly, he is the supporter. It was not the moment when De Gaulle was finally assassinated.
Of course, as the decisive "luck", the hound detective still has the upper hand. If the President did not bow down to kiss when the killer fired the first shot, if Jackal's gun could be fired repeatedly, if the hounds did not sniff a smell from the policeman who let Jackal into the residential area at the last moment... History will be reversed. .
In terms of strategy and wisdom, the jackal is comparable to the hound. But it turned out that the hound won. Is it just accidental? I do not think so. To paraphrase the old Chinese saying, there is God's will in the dark. Justice can always emit a great halo.

The Day of the Jackal quotes

  • Caron: [on phone] Yes, Washington, I know it's seven o'clock there, it's midnight here!

  • [Caron calls London, Assistant Commisioner Mallinson at 3:58 in the morning]

Mallinson: I don't wish to sound rude, Inspector, but wouldn't it be better if this sort of routine inquiry could be conducted through the proper channels, preferably when we're all awake?

Caron: Yes, I'm sorry Mr. Mallinson, but it is very urgent. Commissioner Lebel didn't wish to make a formal request; he was rather hoping that you'd cooperate with us unofficially.

Mallinson: All right, I'll take the Commissioner's call at... 08:30, you say? Fine. Good night.

    [hangs up]

    Mallinson: What's left of it...

Mallinson's Wife: Who was that, dear?

    Mallinson: The Old Boy Network.
