Whether a film adapted from a novel needs to be connected to the original is a matter of opinion. I tend to be independent. Novels and movies are originally two different media. The adaptation of movies by "loyal to the original" is inevitably too formal. Of course, it is not necessary for Johnson to separate the two. After all, "adaptation" means that they are quite connected. The best attitude is as long as they can see the fun in it.
"The Battle of the Earth" is adapted from a series of famous and complex novels. How to condense the essence of the book and interpret it in a movie time. I think not only animation fans will lead and look forward to it, but book fans will naturally also subconsciously bring reading memory. The appearance of an art form. "Earth Sea War" is actually very disappointing. In the play, some clues are arranged forcibly (such as the murder of the father by A Blade), but the whole story is not explained. Many of the side branches make people confused. If they can be deleted, the line of the story will be clearer. In addition to the omission of the story connection is the biggest problem, the general sense of color and rhythm required by cartoons are also factors that make people lose patience in "The Battle of the Earth". Although the meaning of the story gradually became clear in the second half, the moving force has already been greatly reduced by the previous procrastination. To put it simply: "The War of the Earth and the Seas" is quite the same (in fact, I was moved by it), but the film is not good-looking.
