Drink another drink and listen to a poem

A slow and rich movie, although some places may seem a little ordinary to Woody Allen, it will always be etched in my memory. The jazz soundtrack and warm colors make this movie like a glass of bourbon. It's memorable.

When we always try to understand genius, love, or "why", we think they should be able to handle these things better. I always go to poets, take some of the most exquisite passages in their works, and ask them what they mean, thinking they will teach me something. But perhaps everyone present has a better evaluation of their poems than their own. Poets write poems not by wisdom, but by a kind of genius and inspiration; they have said so many beautiful verses, but they don't understand the meaning. Similarly, here I see Woody Allen telling a story. He is also telling a story. He keeps talking arrogantly, but he can only express anything through music, and he can’t explain any of it. Part of it, unable to hold the sweetness before the humble arrival. Just like Woody Allen himself, every one of his senses is chattering endlessly. He talks a lot. This is his innate talent. He is always so thorough, but it seems that he himself can’t handle his feelings. Life.

Woody Allen thought deeply about the nature of art. Not about celebrities, but about the rights and responsibilities of real artists. Emmet, Heidi and Blanche represent artists, fans and critics respectively. As their relationship ended naturally, ruthlessly, and heartily, the audience got a rare enjoyment: a movie that gracefully plucked the soul like Emmet strums a guitar string. Here is piety without biography, because all of this is wrapped in the story of "Emmett Ray", where you can never be sure what is true, what is fiction, and what is exaggeration.

This is the other most like "Cairo Night Rose" in Woody Allen’s career. What he wants to say is, probably, each of us will meet some very beautiful things, but we don’t always have the opportunity to catch them. Live, but we still chose poetry, music, and movies. These things may never help us, maybe they are enough, but it takes time to let people know.

  • Blanche: [Monologue] Any woman would be second to his music. He wouldn't miss me any more than the woman he abruptly left. He could only feel pain for his music.

  • Emmet Ray: I didn't ask your opinion. I'm just telling ya how it's gonna go.
