"The Antler Boy" , which premiered on June 4th , was adapted from a comic.
Set against the background of the crash caused by the raging H5G9 virus, people and stories related to Gus, the Antler Boy, unfold . The editor thought this was a story about a glimmer of light in the dark, and the tone would be very gloomy, but it wasn't. The comic series are much more vivid than the comics. Many darker characters and settings have been modified to make the story softer and easier to accept.
The H5G9 virus of unknown origin began to spread among the population. Human beings can't control the trembling of the little finger after infection , which is also an important feature for distinguishing infection, and after infection, it can only lead to death.
The half-human children who appeared before and after the virus are almost indistinguishable . As important characters in the play, they are actually more like a symbol .
The eternal greed of mankind eventually leads to disaster, and the half-people who are ignorant and do not have any desire have a treasure physique that is not infected. But the children who were supposed to become "new humans" to save the human race were targeted by human greed and brutally murdered.
This kind of setting makes people feel that even if humans have evolved the hope of self-help, they will be destroyed because of their own desires, and the final result will be extinction and death, which is another kind of irony .
Gus' father Richard took his son to the depths of the forest at the beginning of the virus outbreak and lived in seclusion. Only nine years later, when Gus was ten years old, outside poachers still found them.
This group of desperadoes, with the goal of hunting and killing half humans, plundered innocent children, even ordinary humans could hardly escape their persecution. Such people belong to the last human army under the rule of General Abbott, and are his loyal lackeys .
Gus spent a long time on his own after his father left. During this time, he learned to be self-reliant. He wanted to repair water pipes, cook, and grow vegetables like his father did, but the actual situation was that he couldn't handle these things at all.
Gus, whose father left too suddenly, had not had time to grow up, and experienced loneliness, sadness and anger prematurely.
In a person’s environment, it’s easy to accumulate emotions. Gus’s most angry outburst was when he threw the dog doll made by his father into the fire. But when he saw the dog being burned in the fire, he was afraid and Grief struck again, he rescued the dog, and sorry occupied his brain.
So he began to learn to be strong, learn to ignore his loneliness, learn to obey his father's rules-don't cross the fence .
Later, Gus found a box buried in the soil by his father. Inside it was a photo of a woman named Bird, in Colorado. So Gus determined to start looking for his mother, the woman in the photo, the way .
The first season of the show is mainly to "pave the way" , gradually showing the people and things related to the story to the audience, so as to guide the future development of the story. In the play, the voice-over has also been emphasizing that to introduce the stories of Gus's future encounters and related characters, and to develop in parallel with Gus's own story, so that it will not make people confused.
Tommy, a big black man, is a star rugby player and a former poacher. Only when he met Gus, he rescued Gus and got a "little tail".
He tells very few stories, only knowing that he has a wife expecting to give birth. In the hospital, he and his wife were unfortunately separated, and the reason why he chose to be a poacher is unknown. Maybe as he said, "You can only choose to be killed or Kill others" .
The psychiatrist Amy , a woman who had been "custodial" before the crash, brought her imprisonment in the true sense and gave her a chance to regain her life. What others saw was a devastated city, but what she saw was nature and vitality .
Such a woman, after knowing herself again, chose to live in hermitage in the zoo, and in the later stage, she established a small semi-human reserve.
And a key figure— Little Bear, whose real name is Betsy, is a natural leader .
She believes that viruses are the punishment that nature brings to humans, and half-humans are the new hope of mankind, so she created an animal army based on this belief (maybe the force that will compete with the human army in the sequel) . Although she still looks very immature, her words and deeds all show her maturity and transparency. Protecting the half-human is probably the only motivation to support her.
All this didn't change until I met Gus.
Gus is like the light in the last days. He is innocent, contaminated with divinity (related to his life experience), but full of true feelings. Even if his father died and grew up alone, he did not defeat his optimism and positivity .
Such a person can hardly let others hurt him, and it is easy to attract those desperate and painful. Although there are some Virgins, the human setting is not bloody, it can only be said to be the light of healing.
The attraction of "The Antler Boy" is that there are always people who let themselves live in hell, and there are always people who can see the light above their heads and reach out to pick them...
