Break the glass hearts of Americans!

Hello everyone, I’m Alaska with glasses and microphone, Pian Pian.

In the far southeast of the Republic of Cuba, there is a magical city.

On the beauty:

The sun, the beach, and the mild sea breeze blowing from the Caribbean Sea together form an exotic landscape;

On food:

I’m not used to Cuban specialties. There is the only McDonald’s in Cuba.

On safety:

There is a close guard by the US military 24 hours a day, and the lighthouse army will always come one step ahead of danger.

Heartbeat? Don't worry, you'll have heart palpitations in a while.

This is not a holiday destination, let alone an internet celebrity check-in point.

This is the notorious Guantanamo prison.

The gate password of the prison is "defend freedom."

Inside, there are more than 700 prisoners who have not been tried, most of them will have no relationship with "freedom" in this life.

The movie we are going to talk about today took place in Guantanamo Prison:

Prisoner 760

The film is adapted from real events, and the original author is the protagonist himself.

In 2002, he was illegally detained by the US military for more than ten years without trial.

Through this bitter experience, the film exposes the dirty scandal behind the US 9/11 counter-terrorism operation.

The protagonist Xiaobai is a Mauritanian who has studied abroad in Germany.

His hometown, Mauritania, is located in northwest Africa and is one of the least developed countries in the world.

The weakness of the country means that the right to speak and even the lack of sovereignty cannot guarantee the personal safety and freedom of citizens.

One day in 2002, Xiaobai was taken away for questioning by a police officer who suddenly appeared, and then disappeared.

It was not until a few years later that he appeared in Der Spiegel, when he was already the main recruiter of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and was detained in Guantanamo prison.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that inmates at Guantanamo Prison have the right to apply for habeas corpus.

In other words, the U.S. government must produce sufficient evidence for conviction, and the court decides whether to continue the detention.

For this purpose, the 9/11 military court was set up under the direct jurisdiction of the president.

Xiao Bai was the first beneficiary after the ruling took effect. Around his case, the prosecution and the defense started a game.

The prosecution on behalf of the government is solely responsible for Fufu.

Yu Gong, he is a top student of the Naval Law School and a member of the Naval Law Conference. It is his responsibility to lead the prosecution;

Yu Shi, his closest comrade-in-arms died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In the face of the participants of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he wanted to eat their flesh.

The boss also gave a death order: prosecute him to death.

The lawyer who is in charge of defending Xiaobai is named Holland. She is a humanitarian reformer who has been against the US government since the Vietnam War.

Accompanied by a colleague who is fluent in French, Holland came to Guantanamo prison.

No recording communication tools are allowed here, and the prison will provide paper and pens;

Any notes are strictly confidential and will be detained for review and submitted to the security agency for inspection. The meeting will be videotaped throughout.

The experience in prison made Xiaobai dare not trust anyone anymore.

Especially the surveillance camera in the corner.

After Holland's psychological counseling, Xiaobai agreed to avoid censorship in the form of a letter, write down his experience, and send it to Holland.

A thick stack of letter paper records Xiaobai’s bitterness over the past few years:

After being arrested by the police, Xiaobai was detained in a Jordanian prison for 5 months and then transferred to a military base in Afghanistan. Finally, on August 5, 2002, he was sent to Guantanamo.

He received high-intensity interrogation for up to 18 hours a day, which lasted for 3 years.

It is ridiculous that Xiaobai was tried for 3 years, but he didn't even know the charges he was accused of.

Not to mention that he didn't know, and the interrogator didn't know, because Xiaobai was not prosecuted at all!

If the US government does not file a prosecution one day, Xiaobai will be kept in Guantanamo Prison.

Fortunately, Xiaobai still has a friend.

He is from Marseilles, France, prison number 241, and was detained in Guantanamo prison with Xiaobai.

They chatted through the barbed wire and played football while they were in the wind.

Although they could not see each other's appearance through the barbed wire and green cloth, this did not affect the goodwill interaction in the slightest.

Prisoner No. 241 originally had a happy family and missed his wife and children all the time.

But Xiaobai could only listen to the sound of the waves washing on Guantanamo Island, dreaming of his hometown.

On the other side, Juan Fu obtained the investigation file of the joint force responsible for interrogating Xiaobai.

Combined with the intelligence obtained by the US military, Xiaobai’s life is almost accompanied by the history of al Qaeda’s development:

Xiaobai joined al-Qaeda in 1990 and participated in al-Qaeda training;

His cousin is bin Laden’s personal poet and spiritual adviser;

Bank transfer records are sufficient to prove that he is funding Al Qaeda;

The members of Al-Qaeda who have been in contact with him, such as the crucian carp, Xiaobai can be called Al-Qaeda’s Forrest, and even talked to Bin Laden on the phone;

He even recruited the terrorists who hijacked the airliner.

The most important thing is that Xiaobai has already pleaded guilty:

He confessed to charges of financing and recruiting 9/11 hijackers and terrorist attacks on Los Angeles Airport.

He even wrote an excl of the internal operations of al Qaeda...

But Juan Fu quickly discovered an anomaly:

The original report provided by the coalition forces is confusing and contradictory in many places.

Originally, they had to sort the blessings by date, but the interrogators of the joint force actually deleted all the dates, as if they were deliberately concealing something.

The incomplete report cannot be used as evidence for the conviction of Xiaobai.

It's like you say "this graphic is written without needles, forward it and share it with your friends".

When did you say this sentence? To whom? have no idea.

This sentence alone cannot be used as evidence for you to give me a thumbs up.

Fortunately, Juan Fu has a wide network of contacts and obtained the original information through friends.

The archives and Xiaobai's letters restored everything he had experienced in the past few years and also explained why he suddenly confessed his guilt.

As the security bureau's long-term interrogation failed, Xiaobai's interrogation was transferred to the military intelligence department.

They first took away Xiaobai's blankets and the Koran, and abused him from the level of religious belief;

Then Xiaobai was locked in a special cell, with the air conditioner turned on to the lowest temperature, and he only wore a single coat, not even shoes;

Then, use high-powered speakers to play rock music outside, and use the flash to stimulate Xiaobai's nerves and deprive him of sleep;

Even sexually abused him...

A "secret execution" was also simulated.

Not to mention ordinary people like Xiaobai, even if 007 comes, they have to recruit.

But Xiaobai did not give in. Whenever he was about to collapse, he would think of his mother and his hometown.

Until the military played a killer:

"If you don't cooperate, we can only catch your mother. I'm very curious about what she will encounter in a place full of men."

Under inhuman torture and psychological pressure, Xiao Bai collapsed:

Misfortunes never come singly, Xiaobai's only friend 241 committed suicide in the cell.

But his death did not arouse any splashes, and the military only secretly disposed of his body.

Externally, the prison authorities did not even admit that such a person had existed.

Holland proposed to let Xiaobai write his own experience into a book, so that more people would know what he had gone through, and forced the government to open a court.

In the end, thanks to the efforts of conscientious people such as Holland and Juan Fu, Xiaobai obtained the application for habeas corpus, and the film could end at this moment.

But life is not good.

What happened next was beyond everyone's expectations:

Despite the lack of evidence from the government, Xiaobai won the habeas corpus application and should be released on the spot.

But the president has changed.

Bush Jr. stepped down and Obama took office and chose to continue the appeal.

Xiaobai stayed in jail for another seven years without knowing it.

Fourteen years and two months before and after.

Just because of suspicion and connection, a bright young man who was supposed to have a promising future, spent fifteen years in Guantanamo prison for crimes he had never committed.

Xiaobai's only wish in prison is to talk to her mother on the phone and tell her that everything is okay.

However, his mother passed away while he was in custody. Since he was forcibly taken away fifteen years ago, he has never seen his mother again.

In 2015, a collection of letters written by Xiaobai, Guantanamo's Diary, was published. Even though the book was severely revised by the government, it still caused a sensation.

As far as Xiaobai is concerned, the outcome of the incident is quite satisfactory-after being released from prison, he returned to his hometown of Mauritania, married an American lawyer and had children.

Holland continued the friendship with Xiaobai, and has not broken contact until now.

Xiaobai’s unjust case gave Holland inspiration and inspiration. She is still committed to safeguarding human rights. One of her clients is one of 40 people still detained in Guantanamo.

The funny thing is that no U.S. government agency has admitted responsibility for the unfair treatment suffered by Xiaobai, and has never apologized for the incidents of prisoner abuse.

Some people may find it strange—isn’t Cuba a staunch socialist country? Why would the United States build a prison in his territory?

In fact, it was Cuba after 1959 that was working against the United States.

And Cuba before 1959 can be regarded as the iron buddy of the United States.

In 1898, after the United States defeated Spain and occupied Cuba, it introduced the "Pratt Amendment" and established two military bases in Cuba, one west and one east.

The one in the east is the Guantanamo base.

Of course, as a beacon of democracy, how could the United States forcibly occupy the territory of other countries?

It is a "rental".

How much is the rent? About four thousand dollars a year.

Even in 1903, when a worker's monthly salary was $20, it was extremely low.

You should know that there is not only a prison in Guantanamo Base, but also two airports, a wharf, and a desalination plant, covering an area of about 117 square kilometers.

What's even more outrageous is that in 1959, the rent was still four thousand dollars a year... What are you making a joke about not raising prices for sixty years?

In 1959, lighting a cigar, the Cuban people, under the leadership of Fidel Castro, overthrew the pro-American dictatorship of Batista and won the victory of the national democratic revolution.

However, the Guantanamo base stood still.

The main reason is that it cannot be beaten...It is estimated that as soon as the fight starts, Cuba will change its leader...

In 2001, the U.S. Army captured thousands of suspects from terrorist organizations and Afghan irregular forces in the Afghan battlefield.

They do not belong to the army of any country, and their detention and interrogation methods are also different from the requirements of the Geneva Convention.

The US military is eager to learn about bin Laden's whereabouts and needs to pry out intelligence from these militants in a safe and convenient place.

However, detaining suspects indefinitely without trial is illegal in the United States, and these detainees cannot be detained in the United States.

Faced with huge time pressure, the Pentagon finally chose Guantanamo.

In this way, the "Democracy Beacon" exudes brilliance in the Caribbean Sea.

When he learned that he had come to Guantanamo, Xiaobai was not afraid, but very happy.

Because he believes that the United States is a democratic and legal country, and he will be treated fairly.

I'm afraid Xiaobai will never think that he will be detained for eight years without trial, and the "beacon of democracy" will use fear to control him.

Although the United States cannot forgive a person who has never committed a crime, Xiao Bai chooses to forgive those who abuse him.

Because in Arabic, "freedom" and "forgiveness" are the same word.

Even if you are behind bars, you can choose "freedom."

With the new President Biden taking office, the closure of Guantanamoti is on the agenda (seeing his recent three consecutive falls, I hope this work can be completed before he has a cerebral thrombosis).

But in every corner of the world, discrimination, violence, and unjust cases have never stopped. Exposers and amendments have become targets of public criticism.

Juan Fu revealed the truth, resigned in anger, and was called a "traitor" by colleagues;

Holland not only defended Xiaobai, but also encouraged him to write a book about what happened in prison, and even sued the US government...

As a result, she appeared in the newspaper and was cast aside by the American people in distorting the facts.

Fortunately, in this world, there are people like Holland who fight for justice.

She is not only defending the parties, but also defending the legal system.

When insisting on the fair trial he deserves, he is actually defending himself.

I hope this single spark can start a prairie fire and burn the evil spirits.

That's it for today, see you tomorrow.

Bye bye.
