There are two contrasts, one inside the wall and the other outside the wall. The hostess is free but trapped on this small island by the ideals she thought before. Constantly doubting what freedom and justice are, the male lead is desperately locked up in jail. For him, his future, the only meaning of living is the heroine. The hostess left, and eventually he chose to survive. It's hard to imagine how difficult it is for the male protagonist to live, but the female protagonist might not forget that he is deeply trapped in the cage for the rest of his life. A window for two people is too depressing.
