The American science fiction film "War of the World", released in 1953, is based on the science fiction novel of the same name by British writer HG Wells. Unlike the original novel's setting and story background, the main story of this film takes place in the United States. The film tells the story of human beings on Earth who have experienced two world wars and are caught in a war with a group of aliens from Mars who have been looking for a livable planet. The army was defeated one after another, and some people lost their confidence and hid in the church to pray for the gods. Just when many people feel that there is a dead end, those aliens begin to die one after another because they have no resistance to the microorganisms on the earth (especially germs).

This film is regarded as a sci-fi classic and one of the most famous sci-fi films in film history. It is the heyday of Hollywood sci-fi film creation with "The Day the Earth Stood Still" released in 1951 (the prototype of the movie of the same name in 2008). Typical works from the 1950s and 1960s. In "The Day the Earth Stood Still", aliens visit the earth with robots, but they are regarded as public enemies by humans. In "War of the World", the Martians raided the earth. Before humans had time to make friendly contact with them, they were caught off guard by pre-emptive laser weapons. Countries around the world were forced to send troops to fight against them, even with nuclear weapons (however Nuclear weapons cannot hit Annealing Stars). Both of these works were obviously influenced by World War II, the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union and the Cold War mentality. Now they seem to have a strong sense of the times and are already outdated works.

In this "World War", there are a lot of scenes and shots that have inspired countless sci-fi works or disaster films in later generations. Whether it’s the 05 version of "World War" directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Atango, or "The Martian Plays the Earth" by Tim Burton, or "Independence Day" by Roland Emmerich "Series", "Vanilla Sky" (a version starring Atango), "28 Days of Surprise", "Son of Man", and "Battle of Los Angeles" are all affected by different stages of the film. Especially "The Martians play with the earth", "Independence Day", the 05 version of "War of the World" and "Battle of Los Angeles", there are many plots that pay tribute to the film.

The art design, model making, and special effects of this film were at the cutting-edge level at the time. The scenes of indiscriminate bombing by alien spacecraft and ugly Martians trying to capture humans are all advanced. It's a pity that many big scenes in the film are presented in the form of video data editing + narration, which makes the story rhythm of the whole film seem too rapid, and the duration of the film is therefore short.

The film won the best special effects at the 26th Academy Awards.

The War of the Worlds quotes

  • Major General Mann: [handing binoculars to Dr. Forrester] Look at it will you!

Pastor Dr. Matthew Collins: Beings from another world.

Major General Mann: Is that some kind of a flying machine?

Forrester: No, no. It's supported from the ground by rays, probably some form of magnetic flux, like invisible legs. This is amazing. They must keep the opposing poles in balance and lift the machine.

Col. Ralph Heffner: All command posts - stand by to fire!

Pastor Dr. Matthew Collins: But, Colonel! Shooting's no good!

Col. Ralph Heffner: It's always been a good persuader.

  • Radio Reporter: The target for the A-bomb is this nest of Martian machines in the Puente Hills, where more of these meteor cylinders came down early last evening. A plane will pinpoint the target for the drop from six miles up. Now, we've been warned that this bomb is ten times more powerful than anything previously used, it's the latest thing in nuclear fission. Nothing like this has ever been exploded before, and we're going to be pretty darn close. But there are observers down in the valley in a forward bunker, and they'll be a lot nearer than us. The whole world is waiting, for this will decide the fate of civilization, all Humanity, whether we live or die, may depend on what happens here. "There must be a couple of million people back of us in the shelter of the San Gabriel Hills, waiting... waiting to find out whether they can go home again. Everywhere all around the world people have been driven from thier homes. Direct cable communication is being maintained with Washington, but there is no radio at all. Not even with the... bombing plane that's coming over. All radio is dead. Which means that these tape recordings I'm making are for the sake of future history. If any.
