A peculiar title can sometimes become a popular hit, and sometimes it will only become a secret list of very few people. The Guernsey Literature and Potato Peel Pie Club seems to belong to the second situation.

Strange film titles, beautiful island scenery, beautiful female writers, simple and brave villagers, war memories, correspondence, reading meetings. These are the elements that attract me.

During the war, five or six residents of Guernsey unexpectedly formed the Guernsey Literature and Potato Peel Pie Club. They read and debate every Friday night.

Mr. Dousia Adams, one of the members of the club, found a book originally belonged to the female writer Juliet Ashton, so he began to write letters to the female writers about their daily lives.

The female writer was attracted by the story of the club, so she came to Guernsey. In the process of communicating with the members, she discovered more secrets about the club and about herself.

A member of the club who takes reading as a refuge, Mr. Dao Adams who communicates with female writers through letters, and a female writer who sells books. The significance of books in their lives is extraordinary, and the friendship derived from books is also amazing!

The girl who loves to read "Jane Eyre" aloud and is inspired by the heroine in the book is waiting for her Heathcliff; the engaged woman writer has found her true spiritual partner, bravely pursues it, and even asks each other Propose; the poor boy also fell in love with the female writer who resonated with him, and he dressed neatly to welcome his love.

Classic lines:

-But I don’t need to tell you, you already know the power of books

-Books are also my refuge

"A private free space to feel the world around you getting darker and darker, but you only need a candle to see the new world."

"Satisfy the status quo of scarcity, yearn for beautiful dreams"

-Juliet, me

-Will you marry me?

There will always be people willing to listen to the story of the book, and its story is always circulating.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society quotes

  • Isola Pribby: I'm only beautiful on the inside. You're beautiful on the outside as well, men do like that.

Juliet Ashton: Do you not mind being alone?

Isola Pribby: I suppose, sometimes. But then I think how much sweeter it will be when my Heathcliff finally shows himself and how glad I'll be that I decided to wait for him.

  • Audience Member #1: Have you always wanted to be a writer?

Juliet Ashton: Always, yes. It's a perfect job. Sitting indoors, and always near a teapot.
