How to view the anti-China incident in Indonesia from the perspective of a Chinese businessman

I started to go back and forth to Indonesia to do Bodhi business in 2016. I went three times a year, and each time I went to stay for a month. I traveled to various places in Java. On the contrary, I didn’t spend much time in big cities. Jakarta, the capital, was just passing by. Most of them went deep into the countryside and forests, wandering in the homes of various farmers throughout the day. From the beginning timidly asked the interpreter to spread the word, and later swaggered into the house, lying on their sofa, holding the snack can on the coffee table while chatting and eating, I have a good understanding of Indonesian customs and secular culture. A certain in-depth understanding. Occasionally, on the Internet, you will see the records of Indonesia’s killing of China in 65 and 1998 (in fact, there are more than two large and small incidents in history), and you can always find in the comments full of extremely hostile remarks, which are against contemporary Indonesia in the name of revenge. In my opinion, it is extremely irresponsible for people to curse and abuse, and to integrate surface information such as religion and humanities, and to make generalized explanations. The prejudice against history will only increase contradictions and will not make future generations understand each other. Through this documentary, I would like to talk about my views on Indonesia’s anti-China incidents from the perspective of a Chinese businessman who frequently travels to Indonesia.

Why do these simple, optimistic, honest, and kind Indonesians do such cruel things? When I first arrived in Indonesia, no matter from which point of view, I found it difficult to understand this violation. Let’s talk about people’s literacy first. Indonesians are basically in line with China’s positive traditional impression of rural people-honest, simple, timid, without ambition and culture, but united, loving and willing to help others. Such people will commit genocide. The crime is incomprehensible (the actor in the movie who is too deep in the scene dances with his hands when he laughs, and his nose bubbling when he cries. He is so uncontrollable that he can't help but laugh. It's more like a true portrayal of ordinary Indonesians.) Secondly It is the social environment. Chinese people enjoy a high social status in Indonesia. It is very popular to engage in business activities in Indonesia with a Chinese face, although the specific data is difficult to find (there are many early naturalized or mixed Chinese identities. It is difficult to be sure), but from the fact that the Indonesian rich list is dominated by Chinese names all the year round, we can also see how important the economic position of the Chinese population, which is less than 5% of the total population, is in Indonesia.

On the whole, Indonesians are friendly, Chinese are rich, and Chinese are mostly engaged in raw material production and import and export business. Not only will it not cause oppression to Indonesians, but it will promote the economy and provide jobs, even if it is a small business hawker. The whole point of inferior Indonesian specialties are sold domestically, and it is our Chinese compatriots who are pitted. For Indonesians, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. It's even less like jealousy. Most Indonesians are Muslims, with strong beliefs, and indifferent nature. The so-called eating, three meals and five feet of bed is more like their philosophy of life. Few Indonesians I met, even the younger generation, are as ambitious as the young Chinese. They have a positive and optimistic attitude towards life and tend to be liberal. Judging from my experience as a Bodhi, Indonesians’ friendship and respect for Chinese businessmen is indeed visible to the naked eye, and there seems to be no anti-China motive from the people alone.

So, where is the contradiction that burns at this point?

When I first went to Indonesia, I wandered alone on the streets of Jakarta for three days. As the capital, the only sight-seeing attraction here is the Monument Square in the city center, but it is almost the same as the martyrs' cemetery in China's third-tier cities. Apart from that, there are almost no representative buildings for cultural and entertainment. Even walking into the National Museum of Indonesia, the four-storey small building can be visited in half an hour, not much bigger than the Xinhua Bookstore. Despite this, there is still nothing to display. A whole layer of Chinese porcelain.

All sorts of little things show that under the simple appearance of Indonesians, what hides is the lack of social culture, and the lack of social culture will inevitably lead to the loosening of moral standards.

Do Indonesians have no social culture? It was colonized by the Netherlands for more than 300 years, and the Second World War was just after independence. There is no history, and there is no social philosophy like Confucian Marxism. But fortunately, 80% of Indonesians believe in Islam, and the doctrine of Muslims is Their moral code. The advantage of this is that Indonesians stay on their own feet and do not have any evil thoughts. Conflicts and crimes are rarely seen in Indonesia. People are united, friendly and peaceful. The disadvantage is that Muslim teachings can easily go to extremes under certain circumstances and be used by others. For example, in a recent incident, a march against the Chinese mayor Zhong Wanxue broke out in Jakarta in 2017. It was caused by Zhong Wanxue's improper quotation of the Koran. The result of the incident was that he was sentenced to two years in prison for blasphemy. Among the people, Muslims prohibit alcohol and gambling, and it is not uncommon for Indonesians to smash casinos in the name of religion, and it is not illegal to do so. Indonesia’s social culture is all dependent on religious doctrines, and the culture of various industries is lacking (Indonesian local movies, music, and fashion stars are not much better than killing Matt from the current aesthetic point of view). Think about it carefully. I seem to have never seen a bookstore in Indonesia, and people rarely see books or even newspapers at home. Most people are bored and just lie at home drinking coffee, chatting, and doing physical work for survival, without the clarity of the world. I can see the bottom of my eyes at a glance, and bargaining with them is really easy, and everything I think is written on my face.

Traditional honest people, a lack of cultural education, and strong religious beliefs will produce a stubborn cognition of the original worldview that cannot be disputed. They are confident and optimistic. On the other hand, they never reflect on themselves and do not feel guilty for doing bad things. , It is really dumbfounding), but the order is established under the teachings of ancient religions, it is difficult to keep up with the pace of modern society, resulting in the absence of morality and law. The common people have no ability to think. To kill in the name of god is not called murder, it is called trial, burning down the Communist Party’s houses, and smashing Chinese shops, all of which have become just actions (group thinking will make individuals lose their minds, and we also smashed Japanese products back then. The little pink), they don’t even have a clear understanding of their behavior (they are even more blind than the Brexit of the British. Those who participated in the 17-year parade, a considerable part of them are small gifts and free curry distributed to the organizers The meal comes, without considering the consequences of behavior), just like the campaign plot in the movie, the candidates and voters don’t know what they are doing. One side thinks about corruption, and the other thinks about free T-shirts.

So when I watch these documentaries, I will repeatedly remind myself not to use our Chinese moral cognition to understand the absurdity of Indonesian behavior. Considering their educational environment, it is not surprising that they are easily brainwashed and used by the military government (the film also explains that the purpose of the massacre is not money but honor). From the perspective of a Chinese businessman doing business in Indonesia, he deeply regrets and regrets that such a thing has happened, just like seeing the friendly and self-sustaining Japanese people now, but also regret that their ancestors have committed such crimes. It's a pity that what happened hasn't changed. I deeply sympathize with ordinary people who have been brainwashed and used by the government. At the same time, I will not use history as a prejudice to substitute young Indonesians. (Of course, I don’t expect the understanding of the radicals. They lack empathy, and the double labels are outrageous. Those who lash out at Indonesia’s massacre of China are not the same as those who clamored for the expulsion of blacks in China a few months ago. Batch people).

This kind of thinking may also come from my own unique view of history: what we call "history" (meaning that the present knows what happened in the past) does not actually exist. History is subjective and is based only on interests. Those who have the right to speak have mastered history. The so-called history as a mirror is nothing but a beautifying camera with full stalls. The hatred of the country and the family only serves as a decent rhetoric of "the world's hustle and bustle is profitable" when necessary.

After talking about the historical reasons, what is the status quo in Indonesia? First of all, there are huge differences in the cultural environment of various regions. There are primitive tribes on Sulawesi that maintain a cannibal culture (eat corpses, not living people). The funeral culture in some areas is also very unique, and they will pickle the corpses. It’s made, put it at home, and put on Chinese clothes for the holidays and festivals, and pay homage to it (this is not surprising, and Beijing also has it), not to mention remote areas, on the most developed island of Java (the land area is only 100%). 6 out of 6, GDP accounts for more than 50% of the country), this contrast of differences in life is the most stark. The penetration rate of network, home appliances, and smart phones in villages and towns is low. Like China in the early 1990s (some areas still retain the market culture), first-tier cities such as Jakarta already coexist with the smell of smelly water and perfume, and the social atmosphere is like A drunken night in Shanghai. I asked my Indonesian friends about the school when they were young, and learned that they never had so-called patriotic propaganda and education when they were young, and they knew very little about Indonesian history (and not much at all). They were deeply influenced by Western culture. The younger generation kept using INS. , To keep up with the world’s cutting-edge information, the older generation don’t talk about mobile phones, and don’t even watch TV much. Cultural differences can be seen everywhere, one is the grandmother who picks papaya from the mountain and sells it at the door, and the other is the B-list top list shown on the high-hanging TV in the 24-hour convenience store.

In Indonesia, the older generation has been completely abandoned by informatization. It is difficult to have cultural exchanges between generations and regions. If there is no exchange, what are you talking about? In other regions, conflicts will inevitably cause frequent disputes. Fortunately, there is a common Islam, and everyone believes in the same. Sitting in the holy city of worshipping and singing the Quran, it was a happy one. I want to clean up the wave here. One of the domestic stereotypes of Indonesia stems from religion. However, I know from personal experience that Indonesian Muslims are very gentle, friendly and helpful, and do not have the exclusion of foreigners as we think. (I once failed to find a hotel to spend the night in a mosque for free). I asked the locals if I would be beaten if I ran in to watch them while they were singing the scriptures. The driver was surprised. He said how he would fight, he would welcome you very much. Our religion is recognized by foreigners. This is something that everyone feels proud of.

Will history repeat itself? I don't think it is possible anymore. The younger generation, especially the Chinese, hold the dominance of the economy and information in Indonesia. In the movie, I was surprised by the fact that the owner of the Chinese commissary was blackmailed. I must know that in Jakarta, the Chinese are all picking up the villas in luxury cars. I brought my Indonesian friend to China. He also felt that when he saw the Chinese cleaning the toilets at the airport. It is against the peace, because there is no Chinese in Indonesia doing this kind of low-level work.

Under the influence of Western culture, the younger generation of Indonesia has become more civilized, and has an attitude of self-discipline to many religious taboos without disturbing others. In fact, the Jakarta parade in 2017 was also panic at the time. Some anti-China forces stalked it. They used the opportunity of opposing the Chinese mayor Zhong Wanxue to slogan ironic slogans. On the same day, Indonesian air tickets to foreign countries were lingering by the Chinese people. They were all sold out, but in the end there were no Chinese casualties. Occasionally, a few hooligans smashed a Chinese store and were immediately arrested. With the current Sino-Indian relations, it is impossible for the government to allow deviant incidents to occur.

Finally, give the little pinks a vent. That year, the former Indonesian President Suharto (nicknamed the butcher, ranked first in the world on the corruption list published by the World Bank) was the one who planned the 65-year massacre. Commander) has always been regarded as the initiator of the 98 massacre of China. In short, this family is a radical anti-China element. Prabowo, the bastard, also participated in the Indonesian presidential election last year. In the end, he lost 45% of the votes to the current President Jokowi, who got 55% of the votes. Zhong Wanxue was one of his hands.) Afterwards, the boy Prabowo refused to admit defeat. He rallied a group of people to march the next day. Of course, he was suppressed without any suspense. This was the last time he participated in the presidential election. Opportunity, and Jokowi’s term will end in 2024. So, if you are so bloody, if you have to take revenge, don't find the wrong person.

  • Anwar Congo: Why do people watch James Bond? To see action. Why do people watch films about Nazis? To see power and sadism! We can do that! We can make something even more sadistic than... more sadistic than what you see in movies about Nazis. Sure I can. Because there's never been a movie where heads get chopped off - except in fiction, but that's different - because I did it in real life!

  • Anwar Congo: Honestly, I never expected it would look this awful. My friends kept telling me to act more sadistic. But then I saw the women and children. Imagine those children's future. They've been tortured. Now their houses are burnt down. What future do they have? They will curse us for the rest of their lives. This was so very, very, very...
