My favorite movie of the year in 2005 was "Anatomy of Hell". I watched it twice. This year's favorite of the year should be "Velvet Gold Mine", I also watched it twice.
I am not the kind of person who is crazy about movies. I am passionate about the sense of satisfaction and disappointment after pressing delete after watching a movie. A movie that can be watched twice is a great compliment to me.
What I was doing in 1998, the first thing that came to my mind about this question was to answer a high school politics test with a ballpoint pen without raising my head. Anyway, in 1998 Todd Haynes filmed "Velvet Gold Mine". At that time, the only song I heard of David Bowie was a cover of "I'll follow the sun" by the Beatles, and I didn't really like it.
A good movie can get people completely excited. After watching "Velvet Gold Mine" for the first time a few months ago, I first went crazy searching for the soundtrack of the movie on the Internet, and then happily ran to tell my grand sister, but I don't know what words to use to describe my mood.
In the following months, I never had enough courage to watch it a second time. Throughout 2006, I was in a state of impetuousness, and I didn't want to be impetuous to watch an unusually impetuous movie.
Plot-In the
1960s, everyone was busy worshipping the Beatles. When Glam Rock (Glam Rock) first appeared in the early 1970s, it frightened a group of people who admired nature and loved freshness, but quickly became young people. Fashion chasing. David Bowie is the representative and leading figure of gorgeous rock and roll. The prototype of the protagonist Brain Slade of "Velvet Gold Mine" is David Bowie. And "Velvet Goldmine", which is the title of a song from David Bowie.
Homosexuality was unusually high-profile in that era, and the trend was that everyone was vying to be bisexual. All young people have long hair, colorful nail polish, high heels on the back, heavy make-up, and they are both men and women. Everyone exerts all their strength to express themselves. That kind of hard work is like tomorrow is the end of the world. Generally, I'm afraid that I don't dress up brilliantly enough to meet the doomsday.
The story began with Wilde in the 19th century. An emerald brooch symbolizing "alien" was passed from the baby Wilde swaddling to Jack Ferry in the film and then passed to Brain Slade, and finally handed over by Curt Wild. Arthur Stuart, the reporter for the truth about Brain Slade.
During the period, Brain Slade was influenced by Jack Ferry and Curt Wild, coupled with his unparalleled talent all the way to the pinnacle of gorgeous rock, he and Curt Wild from cooperation to good relationship until the breakup, and finally lost Curt and lost all the passion of Slade made. An illusion that he was murdered on stage, and then changed his face to become a pop star in the 1980s. Only Arthur Stuart knows that Tommy Stone, the popular superstar who pleases the public on stage, is the original and seductive Brain Slade.
When Jack Ferry was a child, he carefully put his bleeding finger on his thin lips, smeared his lips bright red, and then smiled in the mirror; Curt Wild had a suffocating typhoon, or took it off in public. Under the black tight leather pants, let the genitals sway to the rhythm of his jumping, or just lay there and roar motionless; Brain Slade knew what he wanted from the beginning, and that was to change the world with Curt Wild, but it belonged to him. Those "real information" are always buried by gorgeous appearances.
Ten years, the glorious rock scene of the 70s, has gone forever. Everything seemed to be yesterday, and everything seemed to have never existed, except for the record lying in the corner.
music--
Our godfather of gorgeous rock and roll David Bowie is a little bit inauthentic here, because the film alluded to the relationship between him and Iggy Pop, which is almost known to everyone. He was cautious and refused to use his work in the film. This should be regarded as a small Little regret.
But such a strong music lineup appeared in the same movie, and it can be regarded as unprecedented in the history of British film. As far as I know, Brain Eno, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, who belonged to that era, and now Placebo (some of them seem to show their faces in the film), Pulp, Radiohead’s lead singer thom yorke and guitarist Jon Greenwood, former Suede guitarist Bernard Butler, and a few musicians I don’t know much, formed a band called The Venus In Furs.
Not to mention the works of powerful bands and singers that I am not familiar with. It seems that half of the British rock music has been included, and the lineup is so luxurious that people vomit blood.
I especially like the four songs "Baby's on fire", "Tumbling down", "Bitter sweet" and "ladytron".
Actors-
Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Ewan McGregor, these two people are so fascinating, it makes people understand that the success of a movie in the selection of actors is more important than anything else.
The role of Brain Slade seems to be set for Jonathan, and his appearance on stage at the beginning of the movie is almost immediately reminiscent of David Bowie. What's more valuable is that he played Brain Slade more than David Bowie and David Bowie in it. Jonathan's smiles, eyes, and movements are like a bewitching evildoer, as if he was born for gorgeous rock and lived to perform this movie.
In fact, after that, he really never acted in a good movie, even "The End of the Game" because of the better script.
As for Ewan McGregor, he is too professional, and he can't help but cheer for him. After watching many of his movies, it is always difficult for me to connect him with rock stars like the crazy Iggy Pop. But Ewan not only did it but also did it flawlessly. In the movie, you think he is a rock star. You will forget all the roles he has played. There is only this man who will go crazy when he hears the guitar.
By the way, his long hair style is a bit like Kurt Corban, and his role is called Curt Wild, which may be a small joke made by the screenwriter and director.
Both Jonathan and Ewan are actors, not singers, but you can't find any weakness in their performance in the movie.
Lines-
"The greatest satisfaction of a person's vanity is to be said to be a sinner."
"Rock music is a prostitute and must be heavily makeup. But under my lace skirt, that's the truest information."
"We originally planned to Changed the world, but in the end I was changed"
and the most touching sentence in this movie is the initial subtitles, "Even though what you will see is a fictional story, it is still worth using the maximum volume. Appreciate".
Postscript-
You can say that "Velvet Gold Mine" is a musical, a feature film, a documentary, a romance, and even a literary film.
Even if we were born at an untimely time, fortunately, there were movies that made us feel it again, just in the not-too-distant 70s, a gorgeous rock and roll era.
