Probably some viewers will complain again: Why do they speak English in the Middle East?

"Chernobyl", they let Russians speak English.

In "The Man in the High Castle", the United States is occupied by Japan and Germany, but they still speak English.

Every time the audience complained. It looks weird, but I can understand the production cost and the reasons why North American audiences are not used to subtitles. "My Gifted Girlfriend" is a play between HBO and Italy. The people in the play speak Italian and are quite comfortable.

Arabic English can be tolerated.

This time the Americans finally started on Mossad. This play tells the legendary story of the famous spy Eli Cohen in Israeli history.

There are so many Jewish surnames Cohen. The day before yesterday wrote about Canadian musician and poet Leonard Cohen, the famous "Ice Storm" Coen brothers, starring Sacha Baron Cohen in this play, all Jewish.

The actors and characters are surprisingly alike, in appearance.

The real Eli Cohen in history

Eli in the play

The Israeli intelligence agency Mossad agent Eli Cohen turned into a businessman Kamel Amin Thaabet, and moved into Syria through Argentina. From 1961 to 1965, he obtained a large amount of intelligence in Syria and helped Israel escape from attack after attack.

Eli Cohen is not a common Bond spy. There are almost no shots of him using a gun or flying over the walls. In the Golan Heights in southern Syria, there were shots of him on the roof, but it was very clumsy. People are in fear.

Eli's way of spying on intelligence mainly depends on his personal charisma. He is personable, charming, and wealthy. For everyone he met, he used his own way to make the other person feel that he cherished the other person very much, and cleverly raised the other person, and finally achieved the purpose of obtaining information.

During his five years in Syria, Eli became friends with high-ranking officials, including the president, and was even nominated as a candidate for deputy minister of defense. This is the highest level of spying. The bad side is that after his identity was exposed, this former intimacy made the Syrian president a joke in the Arab world, leading to hopeless rescue. Eli was eventually sentenced to hanging, and the remains have not been returned to his family.

Several details were noticed in the play:

When Eli finished writing the suicide note to his wife before the execution, he suddenly forgot his name. Too much time in Kamel is too devoted, and I forget who I am. Rhabi (Jewish leader and sutra teacher) who accompanied him on the road asked him compassionately: You forget who you are, my son?

His wife was in Israel, he was in Damascus, and the two men lightly buttered the bread at the same time. The director put the two shots side by side. He smiled slightly. That kind of longing and loneliness is full of eyes-patriotic dedication, can also be expressed in the same way.

General Ashdin’s nephew Manez took him to a military base in the south, passing by Lake Tiberias, which the Israelis called the Sea of Galilee. On the opposite side of the lake is my hometown. He couldn't restrain the excitement in his heart, and sighed: "How beautiful our motherland is!" Only the audience and himself knew that he was talking about Israel.

I've been alone for too long. When he sent the intelligence, he couldn't help using Morse code to talk about football with the other person on the airwaves. At that time, there was an Israeli-Syrian match. "We must not only win in the war, but also win on the pitch." I know, his brother Morris is receiving information on the opposite side. Here again, the same side-by-side shot as the butter in the previous paragraph is used.

Eli, who returned to Israel, refused to cooperate with the inspection by the supermarket security guards and believed that there was nothing in his home. Living as Kamel for too long, he is swollen and lost, unable to live a normal life peacefully. It was Mossad who sent him back to Syria again, and it was his own choice. Going this time is no return.

The signature on the last suicide note is Eli.

The passage to death is very similar to the scene of Brody being executed by Iran in "Homeland Security". It is tragic and peaceful, surrounded by people of different beliefs who hate and curse them. The screenwriter and director of this play is Gideon Raff, who won the Emmy Award for Best Screenplay for "Homeland Security" and he is also Jewish.

The overall color is gray and dull, and it's a bit boring for the first ten minutes to watch, and I can't extricate myself from getting into the show gradually.

It's worth seeing.
