The only Wang Ying movie I have ever watched, but it was easily added to my favorite list. This list is not very long. I think about it, but there are only dozens of them. It seems that I still prefer this Chinese-directed film. If Ang Lee’s films often reveal strong Eastern consciousness, then Wang Ying is completely narrating with Western thinking. But "Smoke" is still very special, as an American film. It can only be regarded as a literary film in the United States, and the box office does not know what it is, but it has won many European film awards including the Berlin Silver Bear, which shows that it is very in line with European tastes. Also, if the lines are not in authentic American English and the background is an authentic American story, it can be misunderstood that it is a typical European film. I remember that I was very excited when I finished reading it, and imitated the owner of the cigarette shop who planned to take a picture in the same place every day and observe what was interesting. Unfortunately, I only insisted on it for a few days. Later, I named the group of pictures "Smoke". It's a pity that the time is too short to be interesting. It seems that time is a good remedy if you let the color appear in the flat. There is a sentence on the poster of the film: The most precious thing is lighter than air. It's a pun, really good. It seems that Wang Ying has penetrated the Western world, but still has no motivation to experiment with his other works. Now I have become very careful.
