A contact with Scientology

When I went to play in Taiwan the year before last, I happened to live near the headquarters of Scientology Taiwan, so I went in and strolled in. The first floor is a bit like a bookstore. There are various Scientology-related books for sale. Scientology's promotional videos are played on the TV. The DVDs of the promotional videos can also be taken away for free. The inside is clean and the staff are all professionally dressed. It looks pretty nice.

After shopping around, the staff greeted me enthusiastically and asked me to take a quiz. Actually, I knew that Scientology is not a good thing. Hollywood star Tom Cruise was deeply entangled in Scientology. But since he comes out to play, he should see more and get in touch with new things, right? And since I was a child, I have been very interested in religion and various spiritual things. I couldn't stand the drive of curiosity, so I followed that nice eldest sister to the second floor.

On the second floor are cubicles similar to those in office buildings. I got a set of test questions, about a few hundred. It is said to be very authoritative information, but it doesn't look much different from a general psychological test. Because I was wary, I didn't answer very seriously at the time, and I handed it in after I was done in a hurry.

After finishing the question, I was handed over to a young lady. We sat face to face in the small compartment, and she began to analyze the question for me. According to my answer, I got scores for feelings, work, family, and so on. Among them, the scores for feelings are low. Unlike my understatement, she looked serious. After a few minutes, I realized that the opposite was an expert trained in psychology, and the atmosphere suddenly became tense. She was particularly interested in my emotional experience, and the questions were very sharp, but when I answered the questions, I never expected that the other party would be so serious. She unceremoniously pointed out that I did not answer truthfully. Although I denied her judgment, I knew in my heart that everything she said was correct. After her chase, I had nothing but to fight back, and I had no power to fight back. My face was flushed, my palms sweated, and I almost surrendered. Afterwards, she probably felt that I was not sincere, and when the table was pushed, the two broke up unhappy.

I am writing about this experience to say that although Scientology is notorious, it can do such a big thing. There are actually two brushes for opening semicolons all over the world. If I were a noob and had followed their so-called psychological test, I would definitely not be able to withstand this wave of psychological offensive. As said in the film, if you really open your heart and spit out your inner secrets quickly, you will be finished. They are not true psychologists. They will record your secrets in detail and become manipulated in the future. You, control your handle. I suspect this is one of their strategies. Who would ask a stranger so rudely to tell him the secret of his heart? This is unexpected, this is a cult.

According to my observations, all normal religions, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, and Hinduism, are actually quite indifferent to unbelievers, giving people a feeling of indifference. Only you stretch out your hand and take the first step. , There will be opportunities for further contact. Christianity is relatively radical. Even so, for ordinary believers, once the gospel is preached, they are doing their part, and ultimately believing it or not is the work of God. 99% of those who insist on pulling people's heads are heretics.

So religious freedom is actually a double-edged sword. Although the mainland is greatly suppressed in this respect, it also makes it difficult for cults to survive. Like the United States and Taiwan, they are too laissez-faire and have caused a chaotic dance of demons. Is it really good? I doubt it. It would be really terrifying if the wheel was not knocked down decisively back then, and in the end the IRS could not get off the stage like Scientology, and it became a major problem. Although XX is very evil, but delusional to fight poison with poison, I am afraid that in the end it will become like the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and become a mess.

HBO has had a blast this year, first with The Jinx and then with this one. I think Paul Haggis summed it up right, which was probably 'they want you to think for yourselves but if you don't go their way then fuck off'. I always feel that Tom's religious beliefs and eyes wide shut have a wonderful intertextual relationship

I won't be able to look directly at Tommy in the future. . .

Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief quotes

  • Paul Haggis: I finally get to OT 3 and they give me the secret materials, which I've been hearing about all this time. They're hand written by Hubbard. You'd have to keep them in a locked briefcase, be very cautious because they would always say if this gets out it's dangerous to people. It can actually do them harm if they are not adequately prepared. And I read it and it doesn't make any sense... I think, I remember for one fleeting second thinking well maybe it's an insanity test. Maybe if we believe this they kick you out. You know? Maybe you're insane! That of course is not the case. They talk about, you know, the fact that the earth was created, that such and such of trillions of years ago and this guy, who's this space guy... and put them in volcanoes and then blow them up with A-bombs... And we have these lost souls all over us and we have to get rid of them. And I'm going what the fuck are you talking about? I mean, I'm down for the self-help stuff. I'm down for, ok, I can be clear, I can, you know, I can get rid of those, the negative emotions, but what the fuck is this?

  • Lawrence Wright: Scientology really is a journey into the mind of L. Ron Hubbard and the further you get into it the more like L. Ron Hubbard you become.
