There will be many disappearances in life

After breaking up, I knew I would never see her again.

We have lived together for nearly two years, although we depend on each other, but I am not very good to her.

I often get angry at her out of control. She makes a sound when she eats and I want to scold, and when she wakes me up, I want to scold. If I am in a bad mood, I want to scold.

After she left, I began to try to get used to life alone. Before she came, I had been living alone.

One afternoon I opened the Dutch movie "Mysterious Disappearance".

The film was filmed in 1988. The rhythm is in accordance with the slow style of the 80s, but the excitement of the story completely escapes the genre film routine.

In my opinion, this movie is divided into two parts in terms of the rhythm of the story:

first half

A couple was traveling by car, passing by the highway rest stop to refuel, and his girlfriend went to buy a drink, and then disappeared. It really disappeared completely.

The male protagonist started looking for his girlfriend for three years. Through various methods: police, newspapers, TV stations, etc., someone began to analyze that his girlfriend’s "missing" was just to leave him, not really missing, maybe now Which city is living well?

However, the male protagonist is not stopped by these remarks, and is still looking for his girlfriend, as if possessed by a demon.

The above is the first half of the movie.

It was an afternoon when there was no sunshine in autumn. I watched this movie on an old-fashioned little computer, and my heart ached.

I imagine that in the second half of the movie, the male protagonist finally found his girlfriend. She lived well elsewhere, and was already a wife and even had children.

In the bright sunshine, the children were frolicking nearby, and the two looked at each other speechlessly.

Through flashbacks, the film tells how his girlfriend and his quarrels and sadness before leaving, and finally how they made up their minds to leave him.

Second half

The film begins to show a man's growth journey, yes, the structure of this film is so divided.

When this man was a child, he would have many weird and bold ideas and dare to act.

For example, when he was 16 years old, he thought, "Why don't I dare to jump off the balcony on the second floor? How could I be destined to not jump?"

As a teenager, he jumped off the balcony on the second floor without hesitation, but broke his left arm and two fingers.

For example, when he was 26 years old, in order to save a little girl who fell into the water, he did not hesitate to jump into the dirty river water in the country, admired by his daughter, and proudly called him a hero.

However, he had doubts about these in his heart. He believed that he was not a hero, and he could do evil things as well.

In short, he is questioning everything in the world. Unlike ordinary people, we just think about it, and there is no answer. He dared to do it, searching for the answer himself, at any cost.

He is suffering from "claustrophobia", and he believes that if this fear is passed on to others, he will no longer be afraid.

The movie is here, and the timeline is back to the present. The perverted man contacted the protagonist. He told the protagonist that he knew where his girlfriend was. However, if you want to know the answer, the protagonist must experience the same experience as his girlfriend.

The male protagonist must have refused at first, thinking what the hell is this?

But the obsession to find his girlfriend made him agree to the request of the abnormal man, and the abnormal man gave him his own potion: anesthetic.

The hero fainted, and when he woke up, he found himself lying in the dark, sultry and suffocated.

He struggled madly, beat and screamed, but to no avail, time and air passed a little bit, and the flame of the lighter gradually extinguished, and everything returned to silence and darkness.

The male lead suddenly laughed in the dark, and he finally knew where his girlfriend had gone.

The camera moves up, and there is a piece of grass on it. The perverted man and his wife and daughter dine harmoniously on the grass. It turns out that the male protagonist was stuffed in a coffin and buried under the perverted man’s yard.

And his destination was the destination of his girlfriend three years ago: his girlfriend was stunned by a perverted man at a gas station and buried alive under the yard. The perverted man believed that by burying a person alive, he would no longer have "claustrophobia".

So the male protagonist has been searching for three years but there is no news.

The movie ends here, but the life of the audience must continue.

About a month later, when I was about to get off work, I asked her online: How have you been?

She answered very simply: very good.

I asked some questions about her life after she left me.

She always responded very slowly, and the reply was also a few simple words, and she didn't want to talk too much with me.

I was silent and didn't know what to say. I was afraid that being too caring would make me want to reconcile, because I felt that she really wanted to break up this time.

Okay, goodbye!

I left that city not long after, I don't want to have a demon-like obsession, do you think I can't let it go? I think I can let go of everything!

The movie "Mysterious Disappearance" is adapted from the novel "Golden Egg". At the beginning of the movie, his girlfriend had a dream of being trapped in a golden egg.

In the process of looking for his girlfriend, the male protagonist also had a dream: dreaming that they were all trapped in golden eggs, drifting in space, passing by, and being alone forever.

The Vanishing quotes

  • Raymond Lemorne: My daughter was bursting with pride. But I thought that her admiration wasn't worth anything unless I could prove myself absolutely incapable of doing anything evil. And as black cannot exist without white, I logically conceived the most horrible deed that I could envision right at that moment. But I want you to know, for me killing is not the worst thing.

  • Rex Hofman: Sometimes I imagine she's alive. Somewhere far away. She's very happy. And then, I have to make a choice. Either I let her go on living and never know, or I let her die and find out what happened. So... I let her die.
