I just noticed that the translated name is actually "The Murder Case in Misty Town". The original name was self-made words, which was the name of the community. Want to come to this movie to announce pitifully little, not much news, almost a mysterious movie star work.
As a result, I didn’t know what to say. The original script was written by the Coen brothers, and it was actually completed as early as 1986, that is, after the release of "Blood Labyrinth". Clooney took over after being sealed for nearly 20 years. The film was released in 2017. The result was unknown at the film festival ( Maybe it’s a humiliated face), the box office is even more disastrous. A brief summary of the plot is the murderous intent in the utopian American town of the 1950s.
My first impression was that the semi-finished product written by the Coen brothers was thrown to Clooney and photographed, and it was still a dusty notebook for many years. It can be seen that there are a lot of famous Cohen elements in the story: the black eats the black, the violence of evil taste, the miracle, a group of fools and bad guys stage a black comedy. To say that these elements are quite interesting when they appear, after all, it is rare to have such contact with Cohen elements, but this "typical" Cohen movie is embarrassing.
One is, after all, it was not directed by the Coen brothers himself. Although Clooney has made little achievements in the directing industry and has worked with Cohen several times, it is difficult to learn the "style", and at most "imitate" it, and it is difficult to grasp its essence. However, the difference in "style" is not easy to explain. I just can feel this difference, and I can't say what's wrong.
The second is an actor. That's right, the actor's performance can also see traces of "imitation". Damon and Moore are like the calculating couple in "Blood Maze", maybe the role of Aunt Moore was originally written for Aunt McDomond. It's Clooney that Isaac's greasy head is alive, and he's almost lost in sight for a while. There are big fat guys and stupid killers, all of whom can find prototypes. There is still a problem. From the director's level, it is "imitation", and the actor's performance will appear even more unnatural.
The third is the script. The script was sealed for a reason. If you shoot "Blood Labyrinth" after it becomes famous, you will definitely be ridiculed and lazy (actually I would confuse the plots of "Ice Blood Storm" and "Blood Labyrinth", and it feels like a way), and it's not much better than the previous one. The bright spot, the company does not want to invest. Maybe the two of them also think that the book is so-so, and they didn’t modify and polish it much; after years of restarting the project, if you still take the original book, maybe some fans who are familiar with them will cheer, maybe some will laugh at the old-fashioned, or maybe they will. Because the younger generation imitated too much, it seemed plain; but the insertion of a racial conflict that was clearly shown to a certain president made the script that seemed tense and weak in itself even more general. The biggest question is: Is there a connection between black eating black and ethnic conflict? Yes, they can all be attributed to this seemingly peaceful and harmonious town, hidden in greed and violence, but I don't see the inevitable connection between the two, and the grafting together seems to delay each other. "Three Kings Escape" as an example, the American group portraits are put together in an Odyssey-style road film, which should be a good example (and Clooney is still the star), but the Clooney team does not seem to change it seriously. Not to mention the elements that seem to be playing smoothly in the first half, and the series of turns that should have been pleasantly surprised in the second half are made as frustrated.
The reason for the poor box office is obvious, so I wonder if it was introduced by the Coen fans, and the Chinese audience may not be able to help them pay back.
