I just want to be the bamboo of the mountains and go up freely

The film is adapted from Japanese folk mythology and has a certain nihilism.

What attracts me is the rough lines and light colors of the entire animated film, somewhat similar to Chinese ink and wash landscape paintings.

When a pair of kind-hearted peasant women in the mountains were cutting bamboo, they came across a luminous bamboo. Inside the bamboo was a miniature girl. The grandfather kindly called her a little princess and took her home to raise her. The little girl grows very fast, looks bright and beautiful, grows freely in the mountains, and blends with nature. Stealing melons and picking fruits with her friends, and chopping wood to catch pheasants together, she is free and cheerful. In the four seasons in the mountains, the flowers, plants, melons and fruits are colorful, she sings the sad and anonymous song, but there is a happy smile on her face.

When the farmer later cut the bamboo, broken gold and expensive cloths appeared in the bamboo one after another. He believed that this was the will of the gods to let the little princess live the treatment of a real princess. They moved, they left the mountains and rushed to Kyoto.

The little princess was asked to be like a real nobleman, sitting, etiquette, appearance, words and deeds from the nobles from the palace to guide her. She is like a bird, trapped in a gorgeous cage. She learned calligraphy and painting, and her appearance became more and more beautiful. Her name was named "Princess Huiye" and she shined like a radiance. The nobles who came to propose marriage were endless, and her reputation became more and more spread, and even the emperor would marry. She is a concubine.

However, she is not happy. She will not go against her father's wishes and can do things well even if she doesn't like it. She has closed her heart, and her life will be happier only when she is dreaming. She became more and more silent, only a small vegetable garden belonged to her, in that small vegetable garden dreaming of childhood, pretending to be happy.

The luxurious clothes on her body are like layers of shackles. If she wants to get rid of it, she can only pray, pray for being away from the current life. Later, her prayer was heard by the moon, and the moon's fellows greeted her with a ceremonial honor to go home. She didn't want her parents to be sad, and she didn't want her companions to wait for a long time. She left the world with pain and regret. The song chanted again, full of sadness and loss.

Grandpa, the grandpa who wants to train Kaguya into a real princess knows what kind of life Kaguya really wants to live? Can you know what happiness is? Can you know whether Kaguya is happy?

Princess Huiye, in the next life, I just want you to be a bamboo in the mountains, stretch freely and upright.

Folklore uses the simple style of painting, new bottles of old wine, and gentle style slowly. Kaguya Ji scorned the powerful and frustrated the pretenders, and couldn't help but smile. It also looks at male-centered social phenomena from a female perspective. I don't want to be an accessory to anyone, I just want to get close to nature freely and happily. Japanese cultural heritage and concepts are undoubtedly revealed in the film, full of Zen and a lot of aftertaste.

This is undoubtedly the most beautiful Ghibli movie I have ever seen. The watercolors are simple and delicate, and the Hisaishi, which is always syrupy, makes the soundtrack also rare to bring out the peace of mind. Heiankyo, Gagaku, and strange talk are simply a feast for those who love period dramas. . The earthly flowers, birds, fish and insects love, hate, hate, and delusion, and the bliss of the other world is cold and peaceful. Every world is nostalgic. It is better to return. The world of Taketori Monogatari is the ultimate truth, goodness and beauty. Tatsuya Nakadai originally matched the charcoal-boiler~

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya quotes

  • The Princess Kaguya: [singing] Go round, come round, come round... come round, oh distant time. Come round, call back my heart. Come round, call back my heart. Birds, bugs, beasts, grass, trees, flowers. Teach me how to feel. If i hear that you pine for me, i will return to you.
