The deepest fear

I personally like it very much. Because this film profoundly portrays the deepest fear of people-the fear of those closest to oneself. The early plot of the film is particularly well laid out, but the plot in the middle and late stages is somewhat weak. The ending also made me a little confused (I don't know if it's because of my lack of understanding or the screenwriter). Let's listen to me (pick the characteristic places) elaborate (spoiler):

1. After Claire went out to film, Beverly called his hotel and it was her male secretary who answered the phone, so Beverly told him a lot of Claire's old stories. This process is great. But since then, Beverly has always thought that he was green, and has always regarded the misunderstanding as true and as the main contradiction (one of) of the plot is too bloody.

2. There are too many useless and repetitive scenes in the middle and late stages. It is simply to cut the length of the film and should be deleted. For example: I remember a scene where Beverly (or Riot came) was shaving in the bathroom. I don’t know what you can do about shaving-useless; in one scene, Beverly asked his brother why he wanted to take care of it. He, he gave the example of Siamese conjoined people to explain their relationship. And then in another scene, Riot's lover asked him why he should care about his brother, and he once again expressed their relationship-the two scenes repeated the plot.

3. Later, Beverly ordered a surgical tool. At first it was said to be used by women with different body structures (he was also preparing to use these tools for an operation), and he later said at Claire’s house that it was to split the company. Somatic. Very contradictory (maybe because he is already crazy).

4. It makes no sense for Claire to go home from a business trip and meet Beverly again! Just bluntly wanted to echo Claire's business trip.

5. (I don’t know if it’s a problem with my understanding) The ending, I don’t understand what happened to brother and so on? Why do elder brothers and younger brothers need "separation surgery"? Why separate? Don't they want to be together? Why didn't the younger brother ask his brother to quit the drug addiction?

6. Don't look at the shortcomings I cited, the film is still quite good, quite thoughtful, and quite terrifying.

It is born from the same root, so why is it too urgent to fry each other. Amazing work by David Cronenberg.

Cronenberg's rank is high. He uses the destructive tendency of the "twin" text and the audience's preconceived impression of his cult film director to create a mysterious and gloomy atmosphere, from the weird portrait at the beginning of the film to the hose binding, red surgical gown, silver genitalia in the film These eye-catching design elements all show the ritual sense of using modern science to intervene in primordial reproduction, and the ruthless erotic drama also implies a hidden soul fusion that is higher than homosexuality and purely erotic.

  • Beverly, Age 9: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Elliot, Age 9: Yeah. You ask her.

Beverly, Age 9: Raffaella, will you have sex with us in our bathtub? It's an experiment.

Raffaella: Are you kidding? Fuck off, you freaks! I'm telling my father you talk dirty. Besides, I know for a fact you don't even know what "fuck" is!

    [she walks off]

Beverly, Age 9: They're so different from us...

Elliot, Age 9: You've heard about sex...

Beverly, Age 9: Sure I have.

Elliot, Age 9: Well I've discovered why sex is.

Beverly, Age 9: You have? Fantastic.

Raffaella: It's because humans don't live under water.

    Beverly, Age 9: I don't get it.

Elliot, Age 9: Well, fish don't need sex because they just lay the eggs and fertilize them in the water. Humans can't do that because they don't live in the water. They have to - internalize the water. Therefore we have sex.

Beverly, Age 9: So you mean humans would have sex if they lived in the water?

Elliot, Age 9: Well they'd have a kind of sex. The kind where you wouldn't have to touch each other.

Beverly, Age 9: I like that idea. Have you heard of scuba diving? It's just new.

Elliot, Age 9: Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.

    Beverly, Age 9: Exactly.

Elliot, Age 9: [noticing girl on porch] Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Beverly, Age 9: Yeah, you ask her.

    [retreats into her house]

Elliot, Age 9: [walking away] They're so different from us. And all because we don't live under water.
