True Grit

John Wayne is a true hero! Originally, I was going to read the 10-year edition, but I read this edition by mistake. The hero Rooster' Cogburn, even if he is violently drunk, is very affectionate in getting along with Marty. At the end of the movie, the hero will grow old, but the heroic feeling will never grow old. The heroine played by Kim Darby is more like a tomboy who can catch mice with bare hands. The brave girl slowly showed her cute side. The arrogant side of the heroine without version 10 is a very simple and lovely. The friendship between young and old in the ending is even more tender. The tender picture is missing in the 10th version, and so is the humorous language. The dead Bev was also a true hero. Even guess whether Mattie prefers the bailiff or the mounted police. Well, I want to read the original.

True Grit quotes

  • Rooster Cogburn: [cocks his gun] Mr. Rat... I have a writ here says you're to stop eating Chen Lee's cornmeal forthwith. Now it's a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of the same. See? Doesn't pay any attention to me.

    [shoots the rat]

Chen Lee: [runs into the room] Outside is place for shooting!

Rooster Cogburn: I'm serving some papers.

  • Mattie Ross: There's an old saw that says: One white foot buy 'em, two white feet try 'em, three white feet be on the sly, four white feet pass 'em by.
