A nice evening

Good!

What I was afraid of was the last scene, when my brain burst out, and all the previous efforts of restraint were lost. As the saying goes, what you are afraid of. However, this one that should always come is really not easy to deal with.

Or, the play itself can only end here. What we are really afraid of being so involved in the play is that the little sunshine that the black daughter (she) brings to Cynthia will be destroyed by Cynthia (me)'s hysteria. We don't want this ending to come, it really didn't come.

It ruined so many foreshadowings, so many unspeakables, and ruined the complexity of life and the ambiguity of ideas with a simple speech and summary of "secrets and lies" in a way of point-pointing.

I can't say it is ruined, you see, the highlights in front are not all there!

The people watching this film are so anxious, so the director will arrange a happy ending that is almost impossible. The actors act very well, the corners of the eyes and eyebrows are all scenes, and every small movement in the eyes conveys the state of the characters.

That year's Cannes Palme d'Or, the representative work of British director Mike Lee, has no grandstanding in the plot. The actors have contributed greatly to this film, and the performances are all in place, without any trace of performance.

Secrets & Lies quotes

  • Roxanne: Just so's you know, I ain't staying the night, not every time I come round. And I want you to stop before. I was just speaking my mind, all right?

    Paul: Yeah.

Roxanne: Now give us a snog.

  • Dionne: I don't wanna hear her and Norbert havin' it off. I don't want her to know who I'm havin' it off with, and I don't want her to see me drunk. Don't want her to know nothing about me.

Hortense Cumerbatch: Maybe that's because you're frightened that when you look at her you can see yourself in 20 years time.

    Dionne: [rolls her eyes] Please.
