To be honest, I really didn't understand

Going for the first collaboration between Edward Norton and Robert De Niro's two generations of acting school, the result was really disappointing, almost incomprehensible, the only bright spot was the two points revealed. Really depressed after reading it, a waste of time.
There are no elements of the so-called suspense and horror. The biggest feeling for me is a movie that promotes religion. It is not a mainstream religion. It is probably a niche sect. The director estimated that he wanted to put his personal life and beliefs together, and wanted to express the chaos and original sins of each person's life. In order to get rid of the worldly troubles and atonement, there is only one way to believe in religion, but the director's skills are really not good and wasteful. Two actors were cast. I can't look aggrieved.
The criminal who Norton played was going crazy in jail and wanted to be released on parole at first. He knows that the key person lies in the approval of the parole officer played by De Niro, so he asked his beautiful wife to seduce the parole officer, and there was a conspiracy in it. But the criminal suddenly saw a sect reading, and suddenly he became a believer. There was no turning point or excess. How could this be convincing!
The parole officer played by De Niro is a selfish person. It can be seen from threatening his wife at the beginning. He is facing retirement immediately. Suddenly, he is seduced by the prisoner's coquettish wife. Believe in religion.
The prisoner's wife is a slut, but she still loves her husband and tries her best to save him. In the end, I was abandoned, and I still didn't feel the same wave. She is the most unsuccessful person in shaping. Is she a wave or love? If it is a wave, why save her husband? She felt that there was only sex in her eyes. She actually didn't love her husband, but why did she desperately save her husband? Very incomprehensible, incredible. She's still a teacher who blends with her children. What exactly does the director want to make her into? neither fish nor fowl.
The parole officer’s wife had believed in religion immediately, but she stopped being threatened by her husband.
The actors are convenient to perform, and Norton’s performance is the best, with 8 points. De Niro was a little dysfunctional, and he was far behind Norton and barely passed. The female number one, I also forgot what to call her, just call her Alice, this role is purely soy sauce, just dare to take it off, it's the same if you change her role.
In short, this is a very messy movie, so my film review is also messy. I always feel that Norton and De Niro have been coerced into acting in such an incomprehensible religious movie, or are they both believers of this sect? Is this acting in order to contribute to the sect? Do they really have no films to choose from? I really don't understand.
