The iceberg male Eric has experienced brutal wars since he was a child. Humans killed each other and his mother was shot to death face to face. He did not resist at the time, nor was he capable of resisting. He just planted a seed of hatred and took root as he grew.
So Charles is kind-hearted. He had never experienced any huge disasters since he was a child, and he saw the beautiful side of human nature; until the missiles of the United States and the Soviet Union were really launched at him, in addition to being shocked, he still considered himself a part of mankind and was unwilling to interact with him. It is the enemy.
So Eric is cruel, and he exists for revenge. Compared to Charles, he understood the principle of "survival of the fittest" better. He pointed out the inevitable outcome that humans would attack mutants early on.
So Charles and Eric are destined to meet and know each other, because they are both strong. Charles can guide Eric's emotions and enable him to reach his full potential; and Eric's powerful strength can help Charles prevent the outbreak of the Third War.
But it was wrong.
Eric doesn't care whether the war breaks out or not. He only knows that the enemy of his life will appear in the war. All he thinks about is revenge.
So Charles and Eric are destined not to be together and fight side by side. Their growth trajectory is completely different from the living environment. One cherishes the goodness of human nature, and the other is shielded by hatred, and the whole body seems to be covered with thorns. They are destined to part ways.
In this short encounter, there is one of the most precious shots:
Charles searches and perceives Eric's most beautiful memory-candlelight dinner with his mother. Eric didn't know it, but he had already burst into tears. Eric told Charles that he didn't even know he had good memories. And Charles also wept when he felt the memory.
Here, I think of James Blunt’s "You're beautiful":
"...And I don't think that I'll see her again, But we shared a moment that will last till the end.."
