ㄧ.
Koro, who guards the whale legend, and Paikea who rides on the whale, weaves the great life heritage of the Maori. Tradition always faces challenges in every contemporary era; every challenger and guardian of contemporary traditions always creates the best new traditions for future generations. The process of creation is always between respect and acceptance, and always between believing and forgiving, and bursts out the most beautiful spectacle of human nature. The old chief did not make a mistake, he did every right thing, but step by step he pushed himself into desperation. The little girl keeps making mistakes, she does everything that is wrong, and then pushes herself into desperation step by step. However, both of them were reborn from despair, because some people did the right thing wrong, because some people did the wrong thing right. Because of respect and acceptance, because of belief and forgiveness, the two rescued themselves and each other, and they also created a new Maori tradition together.
2. Inheritance
Ke Luo is the guardian of the inheritance of Maori tradition. He has been challenged again and again, and he has been frustrated again and again. It was his children and grandsons who challenged tradition, and it was him as a father, as a grandfather, and as a chief who frustrated him. Both his sons became sacrifices, his granddaughter became a sacrifice, the whale became a sacrifice, and Coro himself became a sacrifice. He almost died in the ceremony.
Koror's eldest son, Porurangi, did not want to be a chief. The son and his wife died together in a dystocia, leaving only a twin daughter. Regardless of his father's opposition, Polurangi named his daughter Paikea-the legendary whale rider Paikea, the leader of the Maori Paikea. Then, Polurangi went far away. Ke Luo's ancestors in all generations are chiefs, but Ke Luo's eldest son left his hometown, Ke Luo's eldest grandson died, and the next grandchildren were not qualified to be chiefs. In the chanting of the delivery room, Ke Luo faced the two empty cribs. How did he explain this gap to the ancestors?
The old chief raised the baby girl and waited for the eldest son to return. The eldest son came back, warmly greeted, hugs in the church, blind date by the female teacher..., the old father’s anxious heart, in exchange for "I will tell you when I am leaving" and "You don't know me at all." . Polurangi told him categorically that he was married in Germany and his wife was pregnant, and he did not plan to come back. The old chief was excited, disappointed, and sternly cursed with broken heart and liver. Under the moonlight, "He was very strict with me because I couldn't do what he wanted," Xiao Pai replied, "So do I." The conversation between the father and the daughter is engraved into the pain of the chief's life. When Xiaopai decided to go to Germany with her father, amidst the urge to leave, Ke Luo rode her around on the grass in the yard at the request of the little granddaughter to "make another circle." Ke Luo's heart finally spilled into the ocean like dust. Through the window, watching the eldest son and granddaughter going away, "Let's see enough!" The ridicule of his wife came from around him, the old chief's heart....
No one can understand the pain in Ke Luo's heart. He can't face the ancestral spirits, because the ancestors of the past are chiefs, but his next generation is not chiefs, and his genealogy has been interrupted since then. In mourning, he made the most tragic decision: to open a sacred school, ask each family to send the eldest son, train ancient rituals and skills, and select those who pass the test to become the new chief. The little pie who hopped back when he heard the sound of a whale did not know how much harm he had caused. He only saw his indifferent grandfather, only knew that it was "unfair," and only saw the harsher Koruo. But he didn't know: The old chief used the most bleak voice to teach others' parents to recite the ancient prayers; with the most sad roar, he taught others' parents to stare, stick out their tongues, grasp their chests, and stab their spears.
Koro bears all the faults because he bears all the responsibilities. When Haimi’s spear was hit by the small faction, when every eldest son returned empty-handed, when all the eldest sons could not be the chief; the whale teeth he carried with him continued to sink into the deep sea in the sound of the heavy tide. Ke Luo helplessly begged and called the ancestor spirit, but the whale rider on the roof of the temple glared glaringly in the dark night. The old chief no longer speaks, can't afford to lie down long, silent, motionless, not thinking, not sleeping, not eating, not talking... Looking at the stranded whales and big whales, watching the dying ancestor spirits like him, the sacred knowledge passed down by the ancestors was soaked in the sea to die. Koro, kneeling in the sea, chanting prayers, does he seek survival, help, or death?
Three, right or wrong
The chief has always been responsible for doing everything that should be done and right, as opposed to the sacred tradition. The chief has always done everything wrong, as opposed to family affection and realistic conditions. When he sticks to the tradition: the eldest son can be the chief, instead of inheriting the Maori tradition led by the chief, he walks into the valley of death and cannot be redeemed.
Polurangi is the eldest son, but he is a sculptor, delicate, sensitive and fragile personality traits, so that he can not withstand strict requirements (being a chief), let him choose to escape to deal with the wounds of death, let him take refuge Over 10 years abroad, let him take away the little faction without a sense of responsibility. He never knew how cruel it was to his father to name the baby girl Paikaya. He never knew how cruel he was to his father, who was a chief, after running away from home for more than 10 years. He never knew what a serious complaint he, his German bride and his children would be against the father who guarded the Maori tradition if he did not come back to take over as the new chief. He never knew how serious it was to bring Xiaopai back to Germany to live (for a while) to the grandfather who guarded his granddaughter every day. He never knew how ridiculous it was for the father who gave birth, raised and raised him to yell "You don't know me" in front of his father. Because, for decades, as the eldest son, has he ever understood his father's mind? Having abandoned the responsibility of the eldest son, did he ever know the pain and responsibility that his father bears?
Ravelli is the second son, no matter how good he is, he has no chance to inherit the chief. He drinks all the time, does nothing, is fat and obese. As the second son, he can only choose this, because his chief father only needs the eldest son. However, he is not only a spear master, there will always be a group of people around him, he is a natural leader. In the process of guarding the whales on the beach, he led, assigned, guided, comforted, encouraged... the words and deeds of the tribesmen were exactly the temperament and demeanor of a chief.
Paikea is just a granddaughter, not the eldest son, nor a man, so she definitely can't be a chief. But Xiaopai has been like a boy since he was a child. He is firm and decisive and never shrinks. He is witty, courageous, serious and tenacious and never discouraged. The small school learns traditional sacred knowledge and skills, is more enthusiastic than anyone, and has even better grades. Xiaopai suffers from gender discrimination and unequal treatment. Not only has she not confronted the chief, but she is also willing to apologize to the chief. She does not conflict, nor evade, nor does she blame others, the chief, or herself. Instead, she studies harder, secretly, and learns better. She knows how to respect the chief and accept the tradition, and she knows how to believe that the chief forgive the tradition. She said, "It's not Koro's fault, I'm a girl, it's not Koro's fault." In the speech contest, she proudly said, "My ancestors are all chiefs...", she tried to find new traditional directions. The girl Paikaya is really a chief, a Maori leader of the new era.
From Polurangi, Ravelli to Paikea, they are all relatives of Koro, but he can't see their individual characteristics, and only uses the framework of the eldest son to filter the treatment. Ke Luo is affectionate and has deep family affection, but he is stubborn on the sacred tradition and insists on sacrificing family affection. So every step he took was right and right: the sacred tradition. But he stepped on the wrong step, the fault was disregarding the characteristics of the child, the fault was disregarding the deep affection, the fault was the stubbornness of not knowing how to change.
The stubborn Ke Luo is just the kind of person who doesn't see the coffin and doesn't cry. Will he change? The three children, Porulangi, Pavili, and Paikea, lay down in front of him one after another, but he was still unmoved. There is only one person in this world who knows him. Although she can't help him as a wife, she knows that it is possible to help him only if she waits for the right time to take action. Therefore, she watched him suffer and provided necessary living care in time. The beauty is that she always intervenes at the right time, such as: taking away the baby girl, waiting for the small group to come back and lead the group to recite..., instead of rushing in and having a head-on conflict. No matter how stubborn he is to do? She always watches, waits, waits, and accompanies him, taking care of his daily routine. No matter how he fell or collapsed, no matter how serious he was, she would still accompany and protect him, and wait for him to get up.
She watched him get into trouble step by step, but put away the whale teeth that Xiaopai had picked up, because "No, he is not ready yet!" What a wise way! It's harder not to shoot than to shoot! When will it be shot? When the chief couldn't pull the big whale and collapsed completely, the small pie who rode the whale out of the sea, sank into the sea with the whale group. On the coast, the boy began to recite prayers, and the tribe began to panic and worry about the little faction. Xiaopai's grandmother gave the whale tooth to the chief "Who picked it up?" "You knowingly ask." At this time, the chief's heart was brought before his eyes, as the tribe worried anxiously-the whale rider entering the sea. He hung the whale tooth on Paikea who was unconscious, and waited for her to wake up by the bed! The chief finally knew "Who should not be blamed!" "There is no need to blame anyone!". Finally knowing "who to blame?" was simply delusional, because he couldn't accept the goodness of "now". Because he used the good in the past, denied the good in the present, and denied the three children and family affection.

The birth of Paikaya was a mistake, and it was the baby boy who survived to be the chief. The naming of Xiaopai was also a mistake. The leader riding on the back of a whale, Paikea should be a male. It is a mistake for Xiaopai to stay in his grandparents’ house and raise them for another generation. The baby girl should live with his father. Xiaopai should not haunt his grandfather since he was a child. The mistake is to make his grandfather worry about the unreturned eldest son every day. Xiaopai shouldn’t run into the canoe in the middle of the night and cry, shouldn’t leave with his father, shouldn’t have left and ran back again, shouldn’t disobey orders and sit in the back row, shouldn’t steal weapons and martial arts, shouldn’t kill Haimi Spear. Xiaopai should not intervene in the sacred school, should not go to the sea to pick up whale fangs, should not summon ancestral spirits, and should not let them be on the verge of death. Xiaopai shouldn't climb on the back of the whale, shouldn't lead a group of whales out to sea, let alone escape and come back alive.
Everything since Xiaopai was born has violated the sacred tradition. But Xiaopai did everything that was wrong! With affection, with belief, with forgiveness, with respect, with acceptance, with courage, with perseverance..., Xiaopai does everything right, Xiaopai makes everything become right. Chiefs are accustomed to using coercive methods to help others. Koro used the traction machine to gather all his strength, and used the cable to pull the tail of the whale to help it steer. Then habitual failure, then habitual withering and sadness. The small faction always tries another way after the failure of others or himself. She touched her nose with an "ancient ceremony", and then climbed onto the back of the whale, like a whale rider on the roof of a church. Paikea said, "Hurry up!" The big whale waved its tail fin and patted the shore into the sea. "Where is my Paikea?" my grandmother yelled, "Where is my Paikea?" The tribe saw "Pikea" riding a big whale and leading the whales out to sea. "I'm not afraid of death," said the whale rider Paikaia when the big whale dived into the water.
On the way to Germany, the small dispatcher heard the call of the ancestor spirit and knew that she could not go. The small faction called the ancestral spirits, and they came. "But this is not right, they are dying!" Xiaopai knew it was wrong, "It wants to die, and it makes no sense to live." Xiaopai heard the sadness of the chief and the ancestor spirit. "Who is to blame?" Xiaopai used his actions to prove that there is no need to blame anyone. Xiaopai dived into the quiet and dark green deep sea, retrieved the chief's whale teeth, and reborn in the sea with the resurrected ancestor spirit, proving that she was the "Pikea" selected by the ancestor spirit.
5.
Chief Whaletooth can only respect and accept tradition, but he cannot respect his children and accept the reality; therefore, he has done everything that is right. Because Xiaopai believes in and forgives chiefs and traditions, they do everything that is wrong. The chief is inheriting the sacred tradition, but every step is stepping on the faces of himself and his children and grandchildren. The result of inability to change is frustration, frustration to death. Every step of Xiao Pai steps on the pain of the chief and tradition, but she strives to be the answer to the dilemma. The more steps she takes, the more proof she is Paikea. She said: I am Paikaya, I have come here on a whale, no need to blame anyone, everyone is fine! Regardless of whether Paikea is the eldest son or not, the sacred Maori ancestor spirit will continue to be passed on. At the celebration of the canoe launch, whale teeth hung on my chest—I am the new chief.
In the new era, everyone, everything, and tradition will face changes. What is the opportunity for change? People who are wise will ride the wind, those who are not wise will not be able to avoid the wind; those who work hard will go against the wind, and those who do not work hard will drag along with the wind. The intelligent people will call the wind and call the rain, and walk with them. A moderately intelligent person stretches out his hands and pulls his friends to go with the wind. Smart people will walk into the wind and fly away with the wind. What kind of person are you? Grandfather, grandmother, father, uncle, and Xiaopai, what kind of people are they?
Why did the old chief who insisted on sending the baby girl away become an old grandfather who loves his granddaughter? Why did the old grandfather who loves his granddaughter become a more severe old chief? The old chief who doesn't want to blame others, only blames himself, why did he turn from a stunned Maori warrior to a sad and bedridden old man? An old man who has tried all kinds of methods to blame himself, what opportunity does he go through before he starts shouting, "Who is to blame?" How can an old chief who asks the sky, the earth, and the ancestor spirits, but still doesn't know "who to blame?" How does one realize that "you don't need to blame" and how to understand that she is Paikaya and the new chief?
Why is Polurangi not a chief? Why flee home? Why secretly get married and have children? Why did you come back? Why didn't you say you want to leave when you came back? Why go right away? From bereavement to remarriage, from leaving the pie to seeing the pie, nothing has changed. Why hasn't he changed? Why did he never understand the heart of the old father and the old chief? Why does he always only care about himself?
Uncle Ravelli, a fallen whale rider. He is discouraged and has nothing to do; he drinks all day long and is lazy and obese. Because he is the second son—a man who lives outside the aura of the eldest son. Since he was a child, he has gradually understood that he is the second son, how great he is, how hard he is, how smart he is, how much he loves his parents and how accomplished he is—it's useless. Because the father is the chief, the chief only sees the eldest son. Only the eldest son is qualified to be a chief, and only the eldest son can inherit the sacred heritage. Because he is the second son, no one even asks him-to be good, to be better, to be very good! No one even asks him-it can't be bad, it can't get worse, absolutely can't be bad! He knows that he is not an "important person", he will be acquainted-walk away. However, he began to run on the beach, (the chief only glanced at him in surprise, but didn't ask a single question. Sadly!) What opportunity, what strength, made Lavery start to cheer up? The answer is: Xiaopai. Why would he agree to teach Xiaopai to learn spears? After that, his people and his heart began to boil and excite? What kind of power is it that makes Ravelli lead the tribe with the freedom of a chief in the whale protection operation on the beach?
The reason why a person feels that "I am very happy" and "Life is beautiful" is because moderate self-satisfaction brings a moderate sense of security and self-confidence. How can a person have moderate self-satisfaction? It depends on the achievement motivation and aspiration level set by him, compared with the role behavior content (what to do) and behavior standard (what is good to do) set by others, the distance between the two The size and the possibility of achievable. Polurangi is the eldest son, and his father has given him highly stringent character behavior and behavior standards, but his achievement motivation and aspirations are low, and the result is such a tragedy! Ravelli is the second son, this spear master, this natural leader, has a high level of achievement motivation and ambition, but his father does not give him any role behavior and behavior standards, the result is such a tragedy. The restrictions set by the small pie are just like Uncle Ravelli. However, unlike his uncle, Xiaopai chose to avoid depravity. Xiao Pai does not resist the authority of Whale Tooth. She uses forgiveness to eliminate her anger towards her grandfather, and she uses hard work to eliminate her sorrow. When she heard the sound of whales twirling back on the coastal road, she knew that she was Paikea. She went to sea to win the test, she rode a whale to win the belief; she got the whale teeth, and the chief would wear it for her. She proved that she was a whale tooth. Where is Ke Luo? As a chief, he has a high level of achievement motivation and aspiration, which is relatively called the strict role behavior and high standard of behavior that a chief should have. Ke Luo worked very hard, but he failed miserably. He found himself but couldn't ask others. "Who to blame?" Almost became his epitaph. Ke Luo was still a lucky man. The two women joined hands to heal him. After putting whale teeth on the pie, he began to become a happy grandfather and a happy old chief.
The lives of these four people described four kinds of life, highlighting the life attitude of the four life philosophies. We know very well which is good and which is not good. We know very well in our life, who are we like at some point? Or who do you like most of the time? Or who has always been? Or have you never wanted to be someone, but you can't be someone? Polurangi only helps himself, whether he hurts others or not. Has he helped himself in this way? Only he knows and knows whether he is happy or not? Is it happy? Ravelli couldn't help himself. His girlfriend and mother were guarding him. It wasn't until Xiaopai came with his medal that he began to receive assistance and he started a brand new rebirth. Ke Luo's life was worse than La Villi, he couldn't help him, just like a group of whales dying on the beach. With the help of his wife and granddaughter, he gained an open-minded new life. Where's the pie? Try to help yourself and help others, she is a whale rider, a brave of life.
The unfinished canoe has been racked on the beach-waiting for the eldest son. The long wait for more than 10 years is finally over. The traditional Māori music and chanting, the roar of Māori warriors, and the ritual of canoe launching brought all happiness to the faces of chiefs, Paikya, Ravelli and all the people of the tribe. Every audience in front of the screen has a natural smile-a great Maori! What a great whale tooth! Paikea! come on!
